The Market Risk Controls Team is an independent risk group within Corporate Risk Management, reporting up to the Firm’s Chief Risk Controls Officer, and is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Market Risk Function’s controls and operational risk framework. One of the key objectives of the team is to support the development and review of the end to end controls within and across the Market Risk related functions, thereby helping to mitigate the risk inherent in their activities, improve understanding of the firm's market risk exposure, drive improvements in the internal control environment and to share best practices to eliminate or minimize losses or damage to the firm's reputation. The team assists in immediate,
real time problem detection and escalation through the Market Risk Control Forum and has a seat at the table with Market Risk Management to help drive discussions around the effectiveness of existing controls and design of future controls for regulatory and other changes that will need to be put into effect.
Market Risk Controls works closely with the other dedicated LOB/Functional aligned risk control managers to provide a centralized view of all Market Risk related processes and controls functions. The group also works closely with the dedicated LOB/Functional risk control managers to ensure control management policies and procedures, including implementation of Controls and Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE) for Market Risk related processes are applied in a consistent manner across the Market Risk related areas, where applicable. Market Risk Controls also reviews the Market Risk related processes, projects and the governance to validate the practices and the consistency across the businesses/functions.
MR Controls is looking to hire an Associate within the team to provide issue management support to the Risk Control teams. The Associate will also drive change through finding improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness when supporting executive decision making and regulatory mandates. The role will require building strong relationships within and outside the Market Risk related functions as well as our Risk Controls partners. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, team player, results driven and self-managing with strong attention to detail.
Support the Market Risk Controls team in issue and action plan management (regulatory, audit and business identified issues)
Support the team in developing the content and agenda for Market Risk Controls Forum
Work with the head of MR Controls team to guide Market Risk partners in building and executing effective controls as part of their processes.
Drive Controls related projects such as CORE and other initiatives to further the controls agenda.
Develop knowledge of Market Risk processes and infrastructure to better support our partners over time
Perform analysis to review controls and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies / effectiveness
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline
6+ years experience in financial services preferably in the Risk, Compliance, Audit or Controls environment
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills - Project management experience is a plus.
Process re-engineering experience – strong efficiency and control mindset
Excellent written and verbal communications
A high-level of attention to detail and quality assurance.
Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and commitment to deliver under tight deadlines
Demonstrated ability to communicate and build relationships with individuals at all levels including senior management.
Proficient in MS Word, MS Power Point and Excel
Experience with other software packages is a plus (e.g., Visio, Adobe Acrobat, MS Access, and MS Project).
