Job purpose

The Salesforce Developer will support the ongoing maintenance of PowerSchool’s Salesforce and applications to ensure the continued delivery of innovative, high quality solutions that enable PowerSchool to accomplish its business objectives across departments, including Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Product Management and Finance. This role will work cross-functionally with PowerSchool departments to maximize the value provides to PowerSchool. This includes managing the day-to-day incoming requests from business users, understanding requirements and determining complexity, defining solution functionality, designing solutions, developing and maintaining solutions over time.

The Salesforce Developer will be hands-on and be involved in the development of business solutions. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of business application investments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop customized solutions within the Salesforce platform to support critical business functions and meet project objectives, client requirements and company goals
Manage daily support and maintenance of internal Salesforce instance, and conduct long-term improvement operations to ensure compatibility with evolving mission requirements
Communicate with project managers, Business departments and other developers to design cohesive project strategies and ensure effective collaboration throughout all phases of development, testing and deployment
Maintain a flexible and proactive work environment to facilitate a quick response to changing project requirements and PowerSchool objectives, and innovate ways to meet mission goals successfully
Interact directly with Business Departments, managers and end users as necessary to analyze project objectives and capability requirements, including specifications for user interfaces, customized applications and interactions with internal Salesforce instances
Provide system administration support of internal and customer-facing Salesforce environment, especially related to customized applications, user permissions, security settings, custom objects and workflow
Collaborate with various internal departments, including marketing, product development and Sales operations, to ensure Salesforce environment supports internal needs relating to functionality and performance


To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Data Science OR 7-10 years professional experience developing web applications
2-3 years “Classic” Salesforce development experience (Apex classes, triggers, VisualForce, SOQL, SOSL)
3-4 years modern Salesforce development experience (Aura, LSDS, Lightning components, LWC, Flows)
2-3 years Salesforce scripting experience (ant, sfdx, sandbox CI)
2-3 years’ ES6+ JavaScript development experience w/ at least one project implemented with Angular, Backbone, React, Bootstrap (for JS, not just Bootstrap CSS), or a comparable framework
Basic understanding of databases and SQL queries
Experience writing Unit Tests
Familiar with modern decentralized source control (git, Mercurial, etc)
Familiar with the concepts of Test-Driven Development

Preferred qualifications include:
Salesforce Developer Credentials such as Platform App Builder, Platform Developer I, Platform Developer II
Salesforce Architect Credentials such as Technical Architect, Application Architect, System Architect
Experience building responsive layouts and mobile first design
Experience with Java, Python, or Node.js
Experience with VS Code
Experience with JIRA (including REST API)
Experience working on an Agile team, preferable Scrum
