Role Purpose:

To lead a team of medicinal chemists supporting integrated drug discovery projects for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and execute the synthesis of target compounds; troubleshoot and optimize synthetic routes

Liaise with the Functional Lead Medicinal Chemistry in US on project priorities and ensure that project deliverables are met.

Day to day management of a group of 6 8 medicinal chemists.

Analyze SAR and be a part of team designing the next set of compounds, ensuring that the project deliverables are met within the pre-defined timeline.

Provide regular updates on project progress to the Section Head - medicinal chemistry / Functional Leads and clients.

Work collaboratively with the biologists, DMPK scientists and the safety pharmacologists.

Ensure resource allocation, data integrity and adherence to safety in the work place for the team.

Ensure the implementation of regulatory and safety compliances.

Ensure environment, health, and safety (EHS) measures are imparted via training and adhered within the team

Educational Qualification:

PhD in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry

Technical/Functional Skills:

Excellent understanding of the concepts of drug discovery, preferably having prior experience of progressing a project from hit identification to lead optimization

Has prior experience working with a cross-functional team, comprising assay biologists, DMPK scientists, computational chemist and safety pharmacologists

Familiarity with molecular modelling concepts and tools is desirable

Evidence of having a strong scientific capability

Knowledge of route scouting

Robust knowledge for process safety and hazard evaluation

Strong Client communication skills


13-17 years post qualification

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong team player/ works well in multi-discipline teams

Good interpersonal skills, reads the needs and motivations of others in order to deliver high standards

Builds strong plans to provide clarity for others, and utilizes time management tools and capabilities
