About the Role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager (Backend) to lead and scale our engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance system architecture, code quality, and people management .
You’ll own backend platforms powering high-scale, real-time, consumer-facing products, while mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and working closely with product and business teams. From architecture decisions to delivery excellence — you’ll have end-to-end ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership
Architect, design, and evolve scalable backend systems and APIs using Node.js / NestJS
Own system design decisions across microservices, data storage, messaging, and infra
Lead backend architecture on AWS, GCP and Digitalocean (Lambda, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM)
Drive performance, scalability, reliability, and security across all backend services
Oversee implementation of fraud detection, real-time data processing, and event-driven systems
Establish best practices for code quality, testing, observability, and documentation

People & Team Management
Manage, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers
Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews,



and career development planning
Set clear technical goals, delivery timelines, and accountability for the team
Foster a strong engineering culture around ownership, learning, and collaboration
Hire and onboard engineers as the team scales

Collaboration & Execution
Partner closely with Product, Design, and Business to translate business goals into technical solutions
Work with frontend teams (React Native, Next.js) to deliver seamless, reliable user experiences
Drive sprint planning, execution, and post-mortems
Balance speed and quality in a fast-paced startup environment

Requirements
5+ years of backend engineering experience , primarily with Node.js
Strong hands-on expertise in Node.js / NestJS , REST & GraphQL API design
Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems
Deep experience with AWS (Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, infra automation)
Strong working knowledge of Postgres, Redis, MongoDB in production
Experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming / messaging systems
Solid understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
Experience leading or mentoring engineers (formal or informal)
Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate in an early-stage startup
Exposure to Golang/Spring boot is a plus
