Job Description

Product Test Consultant


Bachelors in science , engineering or equivalent Responsibility:

Project Proposal & Formalization:

Review and analyse the Product RFP's.

Understand the driving aspects from Product Testing standpoint.

Create questionnaire and share the same with the account team.

Define the functional testing approach from the product standpoint across the different testing phases aligned to the client needs and product customization.

Draft dependencies and assumptions.

Provide estimates based on experiences in similar product testing engagements.

Update profitability model.

Seek review from Product Consultant / Lead Product Consultant.

Once the bid is won, provide inputs on the scope, deliverables, roles & responsibilities etc as a part of the SOW to be reviewed and used by the Product Consultant.

Test Requirements Study:

Review the understanding documents as prepared by the Product Specialist.

Post signoff on the understanding document by the client, review test scenarios as prepared by the team to ensure coverage of requirements of all critical functionalities of the product tested.

Recommend solution accelerators which can be used with the current product which is implemented and conduct feasibility study for that particular phase.

Review/clarify(wherever applicable) the issues raised by Product analysts/Product Specialist.

Prioritize and identify the business critical requirements based on the understanding of business.

Test Strategy to Closure:

(For midsized projects) Create the test strategy (recommend types of testing which needs to be done for the product implemented, product testing approach, assumptions, tool usage, risks foreseen for timelines etc) and plan by consolidating inputs from the Product Analyst / Product Specialist in terms of effort and time estimation, tool usage etc.

Seek review and signoff from the client / onsite test manager.

Create/Review the deliverables (eg, test design, test plans) based on the size and complexity of the project.

Execute critical test cases for the particular product (sample) to ensure quality check.

Participate in defect triages to identify root cause analysis for critical defects found during product test execution phase.

If required review summary report as prepared by Product Specialist / Analyst.

Review metrics and share the same with onsite team / customer.

Document the key learning and challenges faced during execution.

Perform gap analysis with the team based on the review of lessons learnt document.

Project Management:

Identify the # of resources required who have the particular product experience.

Seek resources and cross train them in the particular product as applicable to ensure deployability.

Release resources on the basis of reusability during project closure / ramp down.

If required, participate in weekly meetings with onsite team to ensure project health.

Resolve escalations as raised by the team (First point of contact for escalation management).

Invite the Quality Reviewer for audit.

Participate in project closure audit.

Release resources and share profiles within Product Testing Group to ensure reusability.

Adopt best practices followed by Product Testing Group in the project.

Analyse and capture the key learning from the project and suggest the corrective/preventive measures.

Track requirements and test cases in a tracking tool (eg QC), enforce change appropriate control mechanism for any updates and keep the requirements and test cases in sync with the latest set of requirement documents If more modifications are required around core product functionality, ensure to update overall coverage accordingly and ensure the appropriate updates reflect in the set of test requirements and test cases in the tracking tool.

Update artefacts such as Test Strategy, KT documents, regression suite, scenario repository, automation, etc to reflect latest situation and ensure that entire team refers to one set of documents through version & change control mechanism.

Metrics Analysis & Reporting and Defect Prevention:

Prepare and review dashboards.

For execution reports, segregate base product issues, configuration issues and complex modifications related issues.

Share dashboards across the testing phases with the onsite team.

Track metrics to ensure appropriateness, standardization and meeting product testing benchmarks.

Maintain project quality data in C20 to ensure standard and processes.

Analyze the root cause of the defects identified and defect trend and design the action plan based on the analysis.

Prepare the defect analysis report/document and share it with the Product consultant.

Knowledge Transition:

Understand the requirements for the project through documentation review.

Understand modifications to the base product and seek clarifications from customer / product vendor.

Clarify ambiguities for the team.

Leverage experience from similar product testing assignments.

Take reverse KT from the team to ensure understanding.

Conduct trainings on products for new entrants.

Update the existing product knowledge repository as applicable.

People Management:

Conduct goal setting, performance appraisals and mentoring/ coaching for team on the basis of their career aspirations.

Identify, groom, reward and develop high performers.

Train resources for growth in the Product testing career path.

Resolve escalated conflicts and grievances.

Product Consulting:

In partnership with the Product Consultant on focused products for the year, create reusable artefacts which can be leveraged for multiple engagements involving same product.

Identify next steps in terms of partnership with vendors.

Study the product traction in the market.

Identify best practices for the use of the same.

Training & Knowledge Management:

Ensure update of product artefacts to align with product versions by providing supporting documents such as additional scenarios for new functionality, different conversion testing approach due to change in DB, updated automation approach in case of new frontend etc Identify technical training needs for team based on their current understanding of product and domain knowledge.

Provide training on products and domains depending on the target audience.

Review the learning scores and ensure meeting targets for the team.

Followup with the team to ensure all artefacts of product testing which are reusable are updated in the KM Portal.

Create artefacts based on the projects which can be used across Product Testing Group.

Create case studies for large product implementations and lessons learnt for prior engagements.

Provide inputs on the help guides of the product.
