ResponsibilitiesConduct a comprehensive eye test of patients and assess their visionCheck the response of pupils to light and the alignment of the eyesExamine the condition of the retina, eye muscles and optic nerveOrder specialised tests and imaging examinations such as eye ultrasonography, corneal topography and fluorescein angiographyLook for signs of cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye infection and other eye disordersPrescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct visionProvide oral and topical medication to treat eye diseasesUndertake eye surgery and treatments as appropriate.Maintain detailed medical histories for patients and advise them on proper eye care.
