Senior MEP Design Engineer
Join a Team Engineering the Future of Construction: Modular Building Technology (MBT)
Location: IITM Research Park (RP), Tharamani, Chennai
We are looking for an MEP Design Engineer (R&D;) who can develop initial design concepts from scratch for PEB and modular buildings. The role requires a strong focus on innovation, standardization, and scalable system design. Candidates should be comfortable working with BIM tools and cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility. Exposure to industrialized construction and DFMA thinking is preferred. A proactive mindset with the ability to build new systems, not just follow existing ones, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design, Engineering & Standardization
Modular System Design (Electrical): Lead the design and development of standardized, scalable, and pre-wired modular electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution (LV panels, circuits), fire alarm systems, and low-voltage systems, ensuring Poka-Yoke (mistake proofing) principles for on-site connections.
Modular System Design (HVAC): Design high-efficiency, compact, and standardized HVAC solutions (e.g., decentralized split/VRF systems, ventilation) suitable for modular integration, focusing on energy performance and seamless mechanical connection points between modules.
Engineering Calculations: Execute and validate detailed engineering calculations, including:
Electrical: Load schedules, short-circuit calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop analysis, lighting lux levels, and earthing/lightning protection.
HVAC: Heat load calculations (ASHRAE/IS standards), duct sizing, fan selection, and air flow distribution plans.
2. Commercial & Quality Control
Rate Analysis & Estimation: Perform comprehensive cost and Rate Analysis for all Electrical and HVAC components and assemblies to support competitive pricing for tenders and B2B projects, prioritizing value engineering for scale.
BOM & Quality Check: Generate, verify, and check the accuracy of Bills of Materials (BOM) and technical specifications to ensure Factory-born precision and consistency, eliminating material wastage and ensuring procurement aligns with design intent.
Drawing & Documentation Check: Be the final check authority for all design layouts, shop drawings, and as-built documents to ensure compliance with relevant international (IEC, ASHRAE, etc.) and national codes.
3. Leadership & Project Management
MEP Team Leadership (Tenders & B2B): Act as the MEP Technical Lead for tender submissions, B2B project proposals, and client discussions, responsible for formulating the MEP strategy and execution plan.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work intensively with the Architectural, Structural, and Manufacturing teams to ensure the MEP systems integrate seamlessly into the modular blocks, upholding our Team Spirit core value.
Innovation & Improvement: Proactively identify and resolve technical design and manufacturing issues, ensuring that the MEP systems enhance the user experience and support our rapid construction timeline ( Speeding up construction ).
Qualifications & Core Values Alignment
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in MEP design, specifically involving Electrical and HVAC systems, with significant prior experience in modular construction, prefabrication, or off-site manufacturing.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, DIALux/Relux, HAP/Trace 700).
Values Alignment: Must be driven by our Core Values, embracing the belief that Scale is Magic and possessing the mindset that Nothing is someone else’s problem . A solid commitment to our MBT Focus is essential.
If you are a high-growth individual ready to do great things and truly make your mark, we encourage you to apply. Come build the future with us!
