We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Drainage to lead and grow the Drainage and Flood Risk capability within the Global Capability Centre (GCC). This senior leadership role is responsible for delivering high-quality drainage, SuDS, and flood risk design services supporting global infrastructure projects across public and private sectors. The role combines technical authority, people leadership, operational excellence, and strategic growth, with accountability for building a high-performing team, ensuring technical governance, and aligning delivery with global business objectives. Any unsolicited resumes, including those submitted to hiring managers or other business leaders, will become the property of WSP and WSP will have the right to hire that candidate without reservation - no fee or other compensation will be owed or paid to the recruiter, employment agency, or other staffing service._ **Key Responsibilities** Leadership & Capability Building - Provide visible and effective leadership for the Drainage discipline within the GCC, fostering engagement, retention, and high performance. - Build, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary drainage teams, covering early careers through senior technical professionals. - Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning, and skills development to support sustainable growth of the service line. - Represent the GCC Drainage capability internally and externally as a centre of technical excellence. **Technical Leadership & Governance** - Act as the technical authority for drainage, SuDS,



and flood risk management across infrastructure and development projects. - Oversee and review feasibility, preliminary, and detailed designs for: - Surface water and foul drainage - SuDS strategies - Flood risk assessments - Utilities coordination and earthworks interfaces - Ensure all outputs comply with relevant standards, codes of practice, and client requirements - Drive continuous improvement in quality, innovation, constructability, and design efficiency. **Project Delivery & Commercial Management** - Provide strategic oversight of multiple projects, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, quality, QA, H&S;, and sustainability standards. - Support bid preparation, fee proposals, resource estimates, and work-winning activities in collaboration with global teams. - Monitor utilisation, financial performance, and productivity of the Drainage team to achieve business targets. **Digital & Innovation** - Champion digital delivery, automation, and innovation within drainage design and analysis. - Promote effective use of tools and platforms related to drainage, modelling, and design automation. - Encourage knowledge sharing, standardisation, and adoption of best practices across global teams. **Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration** - Work closely with Leadership and global stakeholders, project directors, and technical leaders to deliver value through the GCC. - Act as a senior point of contact for complex project issues, technical reviews, and client engagement. - Promote cross disciplinary collaboration with Roads, Planning, Water, Utilities, and Environmental teams. Key Competencies & Skills **Technical Expertise** - Extensive experience in drainage engineering, SuDS, flood risk management, and utilities design for infrastructure and development projects. - Strong knowledge of relevant design standards, regulations, and industry best practices. - Experience in technical assurance, reviews, and governance of complex drainage schemes. **Leadership & Professional Skills** - Proven track record in building and leading high performing engineering teams. - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels. - Commercial awareness with experience in budget management, resource planning, and work winning. - Strategic mindset with the ability to grow and position a GCC service line. - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. - 15+ years of professional experience in drainage, flood risk, or a closely related infrastructure field. - Chartered or professional membership (e.g. CEng, or equivalent) - advantageous. - Background in consultancy and/or large infrastructure programmes, with experience supporting UK or international markets. **BGV:** + Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification ("BGV") check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India. + Candidates are advised to ensure that all information provided during the recruitment process - including documents uploaded - is accurate and complete, both to WSP India and its BGV partner".
