Engineering manager is a leadership role, in which direct reports are team leads and senior engineers of the team. As an Engineering manager, you will be accountable to lead and grow a team of 15 engineers.
To excel in this role we believe you need the ability to drive strategic technical, delivery and people decisions for the team by collaborating with cross-functional counterparts and stakeholders and also considering inputs from various parties, most importantly from the customers. You are also expected to coach and nurture your team, including but not limited to team leads in the team who report to you.
What you will do
Drives business strategy along with cross-functional counterparts & works with team members to convert that into OKRs
Work closely with your counterparts to ensure that the teams deliverables fit well into broader organization objectives
Represent and accountable for the technical output of the team and drive to improve specific business KPI
Ensures that knowledge is shared amongst the team and does not position themselves or others as a single point of failure
Crosses team and service boundaries to work across budgeting, legal, compliance, and security aspects of the teams delivery
Monitors and adjusts team pace to instill urgency for success but protect from burnout.
Responsible for coaching, development, and career management for the team
Independently plans and executes changes to team staffing in service of company goals: identifying gaps, defining roles, and creating people-planning for the team.
What Will You Need
Engineers typically acquire the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to meet the expectations of this role with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
Track record of leading multidisciplinary teams. (dev / test / pm / data)Has demonstrated ability to successfully lead people, people managers, teams or projects multiple times in different contexts.
Well-versed with Agile methodologies, best practices of writing tests and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery.
Has strong expertise and hands-on experience in at least one engineering focus (front-end, back-end, mobile, data or systems)
Experience developing end-to-end products that leverage machine learning at scaleTrack record in building a team of talented engineers.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills focused on improving collaboration, understanding & information exchange across all stakeholders.
