Job Title
Assistant Professor – Computer Engineering and Technology

An Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering and Technology occupies the first step in the career ladder of faculty within the department. The role is expected to deliver high-quality teaching across core and emerging areas of computer science and engineering (such as programming, data structures, algorithms, AI/ML, data science, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and software engineering), contribute to research and academic activity, and provide service, primarily at the level of the department/school.
2. Job Purpose
To deliver quality teaching, mentoring, and research in the field of Computer Engineering and Technology, keeping pace with rapidly evolving technology trends, and to contribute to the academic, research, and industry-engagement goals of the department and the university.
3. Key Accountability
Academic
Conduct lectures, tutorials, and laboratory/practical sessions in Computer Engineering and Technology subjects (e.g., Data Structures & Algorithms, Operating Systems, DBMS, Computer Networks, AI/ML, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Full-Stack Development) as per the assigned workload
Assist the Associate Professor, Professor, and HOS in developing and updating the curriculum in line with emerging technologies and industry requirements (AI, ML, IoT, Blockchain, Cloud, DevOps, Cybersecurity, etc.)
Active participation in academic and examination duties, including online/offline assessment platforms and coding labs
Conduct practicals, tutorials, and hands-on lab/coding sessions as per the assigned schedule, using relevant tools, IDEs, and programming languages
Responsible for setting question papers, lab assignments, and coding evaluations, ensuring alignment with current industry practices and outcome-based education (OBE)
Participate in organizing technical seminars, hackathons, coding competitions, conferences, workshops, and Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) in Computer Engineering and Technology domains
Understand the technical skills relevant in the IT/software job market (programming languages, frameworks, cloud platforms, AI tools) and provide insights to Professors and HOS for curriculum and training alignment
Organize training programs, coding bootcamps, and certification drives for students to develop technical and soft skills
Organize industrial visits and study tours to technology companies, R&D; labs, and start-ups to provide exposure to real-world computing environments
Research Development
Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in research within Computer Engineering and Technology and allied domains (AI/ML, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud/Edge Computing, IoT, Blockchain, etc.)
Responsible for writing research papers for peer-reviewed and indexed (Scopus/SCI/UGC-CARE) journals and conferences
Responsible for publishing papers nationally and internationally in reputed computer science/engineering journals and conferences
Be a co-investigator for writing research/funded project proposals to government bodies (DST, AICTE, SERB) and industry partners
Encourage and mentor students to write research papers, participate in paper-presentation events, and contribute to open-source/technical projects
Guide student projects, capstone projects, and innovation/incubation initiatives in computing and technology
Strategic
Support the execution of the strategic plan of the School of Computer Engineering and Technology, including initiatives around emerging technologies, accreditation (NBA/NAAC), and industry-aligned curriculum
Operational
Participate in student-related activities such as NCC, student welfare, ASG, technical/coding clubs, cultural and technical events (hackathons, tech fests), and counseling/mentoring students
Actively participate during student admissions and provide technical counseling to prospective students and parents
Work closely with students on mini-projects, major projects, research projects, and open-source contributions
Supervise theory, practical, and online/proctored examinations
Actively participate in organizing convocation
Accompany students for rural immersion programs, industrial/study tours, yoga sessions, internships, and international tours/exchange programs
Evaluate answer sheets, lab records, and project reports, and share assessment feedback with senior faculty for continuous improvement in student performance
Address student academic and technical issues, including doubt-resolution and lab troubleshooting
Maintain proper records of students, including attendance, assessments, and project/internship documentation
Finance and Budget
Follow the directives of the Professors, HOS, and Dean to utilize the departmental budget (software licenses, lab equipment, cloud credits, certifications)
within the academic unit
Collaborations
Actively participate in the National Teachers Congress, Bharatiya Chatra Sansad, National Women's Parliament, and other relevant program events/committees
Focus on engagement with IT/software companies and technology organizations for industry collaboration, guest lectures, internships, placements, and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)
Collaborate with CIAP and Marketing teams to ensure smooth student admissions and placements in the technology sector
Build and maintain relationships with alumni working in the technology industry for mentorship, guest sessions, and placement support
4. Person Specification
Desired Qualification and Experience
Ph.D. (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely allied discipline (e.g., AI/ML, Data Science, Cybersecurity)
Master's degree (M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc./MCA) with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever a grading system is followed) in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Information Technology or a relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university
Preferably NET, SET, or SLET qualified as conducted by UGC (in Computer Science/Applications or allied area)
A candidate without a Ph.D. but holding a relevant Master's degree may be considered based on industry experience in software development, IT, or related technology domains; minimum relevant experience required is 0 to 5 years
Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++), and exposure to areas such as AI/ML, data structures & algorithms, databases, web/full-stack development, or cloud/cybersecurity is desirable
Leadership and Management
Substantial leadership and management experience, preferably in an academic, R&D;, or technology-driven environment
