Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Storage Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide technical leadership, operational support, and strategic oversight for our enterprise mainframe storage infrastructure. In this role, you will lead the architecture, performance tuning, and disaster recovery strategies for mission-critical IBM z/OS environments.

Key Responsibilities Storage Infrastructure Engineering

- Serve as the principal technical authority for enterprise IBM mainframe storage architectures.
- Design, implement, configure, and maintain high-performance mainframe storage environments.
- Drive end-to-end storage capacity planning, performance tuning, storage pool optimization, and lifecycle management.
- Administer, configure, and manage core mainframe storage software and hardware technologies, including:
- Hardware: IBM DS8000 (DS8K) Series Storage Systems
- Software Suite: DFSMS (DFSMSdfp, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, DFSMSrmm)
- Resiliency Copy Services: GDPS, IBM Copy Services Manager (CSM), FlashCopy, Metro Mirror, and Global Mirror
- Utilities: z/OS storage utilities, IDCAMS, and DCOLLECT

- Maximize uptime, data integrity, and system performance across all production and non-production storage hardware.

Technical Leadership Modernization
- Lead architectural reviews, define storage governance, and establish best-practice operational policies.




- Mentor junior system programmers, storage administrators, and IT support specialists.
- Evaluate emerging mainframe technology trends, hybrid-cloud integration strategies, and storage virtualization tools to align IT capability with strategic business goals.
- Direct mainframe infrastructure refreshes, migration projects, and modernization programs.

Operational Excellence Business Continuity
- Rapidly diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve tier-3/4 complex storage incidents and severe performance bottlenecks.
- Conduct comprehensive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Lead Disaster Recovery (DR) testing, validate failover/failback procedures, and enforce strict Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Ensure strict compliance with enterprise security standards, regulatory mandates, and internal audit requirements.

Qualifications Core Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 6+ years in IBM Mainframe Storage Administration, Engineering, or Architecture roles.
- Technical Mastery: Deep hands-on experience with IBM DS8K systems, DFSMS suite, GDPS, and z/OS operating systems.
- Disaster Recovery Expert: Demonstrated proficiency with replication techniques (Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, FlashCopy) and disaster recovery orchestration via CSM/GDPS.
- Analytical Mindset: Proven expertise in storage performance analysis, IO bottleneck resolution, and capacity forecasting using SMF/RMF metrics.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a proven track record of influencing stakeholders and clearly articulating technical roadmaps to non-technical executives.
