Role & responsibilities

Main responsibilities include preparing all aspects of primary design for ongoing UK / USA projects. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from distribution substations (33kV) to large scale HV transmission projects. (400kV )

Preferred candidate profile

- Design (Concept, FEED and Detail Design) of Transmission and Distribution Systems up to 400kV for Utility Companies / BESS Solar PV plants based on international standards (predominantly US / UK).
- Apply broad practical knowledge to design of Layouts electrical layouts / elevation drawings, MEWP access layouts, primary equipment layout, earthing and lightning protection layouts for substations.
- Perform Equipment sizing calculations e.g. Transformer, Generator, HV/LV Cables, AC UPS, Capacitor Banks
- Prepare technical specifications, technical data sheets for Electrical Equipment Transformers, DG Sets, Switchgear, UPS, Battery Charger, Distribution Boards.
- Perform indoor Lighting, outdoor area Illumination and Street Illumination in Dialux or vendor software, calculations for Earthing and Lightning Protection.
- Prepare detailed EKD diagrams listing out all Conductors, clamps and connectors proposed.
- Perform Primary and Secondary system design viz. Preparation of Key SLD, Protection & Control SLDs, schematics, AC/DC SLDs, LVAC System design, LVAC and DC cable schedule.
- Experience in preparing Installing diagram / Earthing diagrams for main plant equipments in substations.




- Review equipment structure drawings to ensure all interface points in regards to equipments have been checked.
- Prepare detailed short circuit calculations for conductor sizing and ratings.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings for EHV projects for AIS & GIS substations from 33kV to 765kV, compliant with the required client technical standards or NGTS / SSEN / SPEN / BS / IEC / IEEE / ANSI standards.

- Prepare calculations and reports for engineering studies (Voltage drop, AC/DC load studies & others as applicable)
- Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Substation design Transmission Line & other as applicable) as well as with other Office locations.
- Reviewing designs and attending virtual meetings and coordinating with Clients.
- Preparing and managing designer’s risk register and verification checklist for Substation Design.
- Develop and improve processes, tools, and/or implement current technologies into the design process.Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
- Participate in training/meetings to address specific organizational initiatives.
- Effective task management through performance management of design engineers and CAD Technicians.
- Ensure accountability and delivery as also profitability by monitoring design cost.
- Actively share knowledge and experience with other staff in the section and organization particularly to help coach and develop more junior staff.
