Copy Editor

This is an exciting chance to join an award-winning publisher and work with a professional, dynamic and creative Editorial team.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Copy Editor will be responsible for taking fiction and non-fiction books from manuscript to finished books. This role is hybrid and is based in New Delhi .

Ability and willingness to undertake intensive line edits and rewrites for fiction and non-fiction books.
Proofread books and tally proofs as needed.
Work with the Managing Editor to project manage titles from the copy-editing stage through to final files for frontlist titles, offsets, reissues, reprints and ebooks.
Commission and edit indexes as needed in consultation with the Managing Editor.
Quality checks for edits delivered by freelance editors and proofreaders before sharing with commissioning editor/author/typesetter.




Work with the Managing Editor on permissions and CRC checks for assigned books.
Work with the Editorial Director and commissioning editors on cover copy.
Postgraduate degree or equivalent.
~4-5 years' editorial experience with impeccable written English and a sharp editorial eye.
~ Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
~ Familiarity with the publishing process.
~ Well-read and interested in current publishing trends.
~ Self-motivated and highly flexible – happy to move between projects as priorities dictate and manage multiple projects effectively.
~ Able to adhere to timelines and effectively chart out edit schedules for individual titles.
~ Have a strong understanding of Microsoft Word (track changes) and Adobe Acrobat Pro (for digital mark-up).
