ALM – Codebeamer Platform. Codebeamer (PTC) is BMW's enterprise-wide Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) system, used by thousands of users across multiple business units. It is a purchased product we operate, maintain, and extend; the platform is currently hybrid and migrating to cloud (application to Azure, Oracle database to OCI).

What awaits you/ Job Profile

We are looking for a strong Platform Engineering Lead to own the technical engineering of the Codebeamer Platform at BMW. You own the engineering side of the platform: code-level fixes and changes, building and maintaining integrations and interfaces, governing how the platform's APIs are used, and the technical execution of upgrades and the cloud migration. The functional configuration of Codebeamer is owned by the business units – your focus is the technical platform, integrations, and architecture.

On top of run and maintenance, a changing portfolio of technical and architecture initiatives lands with the team – for example, integrating a purchased AI capability (now in stable operation), provisioning platform data into a central data hub, designing API gateways so the REST API is used correctly, and engineering the cloud migration. The concrete topics change over time; what stays constant is the nature of the work: technical and architecture questions you can understand, frame, classify, challenge, plan, and orchestrate.

We are looking for a lead who is genuinely at home across software architecture, AI, cloud, and on-premise solutions – general fluency, not building from scratch. This is not a purely steering role: you lead a team of specialists and stay hands-on on your focus topics, leading by doing.

What should you bring along

- Code & Interface Engineering – fix and change code; implement code-level fixes that come out of operations' incident/problem analysis; build, roll out, and maintain interfaces and integrations.
- Technical & Architecture Initiatives – take ownership of the changing portfolio; scope a new topic, classify impact and risk, challenge assumptions, and orchestrate delivery; hold the architecture view across the platform.




- API & Integration Architecture – govern REST API usage; design gateways/abstraction layers that protect the platform; integrate via REST and OSLC with the BMW system landscape.
- Data & Solution Architecture – drive data initiatives (e.g. provisioning platform data into a central data hub); evaluate, integrate, and bring solutions live, then transition to operation; make data-driven trade-off decisions.
- Version Upgrades – own the technical execution of Codebeamer upgrades; analyse impact on integrations and gateways; coordinate cutover with the Operational Lead.
- Cloud Migration (Engineering) – drive the technical migration (application to Azure, Oracle database to OCI); validate and refine the target architecture against real-world constraints.
- Engineering Standards & Quality – set and enforce coding standards, reviews, and definition-of-done; drive test automation and quality gates.
- DevOps & CI/CD – build and maintain pipelines; drive Infrastructure as Code and automated, repeatable deployments.
- Team Leadership & Orchestration – lead, mentor, and grow the team while staying hands-on on key focus topics.
- Go-Live Gateway Reviews – assess business-unit releases for technical soundness and future operability; expand technical acceptance criteria; challenge designs that are hard or risky to run.
- Collaboration & Documentation – partner with the business units, Product Owner, Agile Master, Operational Lead, and Munich; maintain solution designs and interface specifications.

Must have technical skill

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years in software engineering / technical roles, including technical lead responsibility on enterprise platforms.
- Strong software-architecture and engineering foundation – genuinely at home across software architecture, AI, cloud, and on-premise solutions (general fluency: understanding options, integrating purchased solutions, judging fit and trade-offs).
- Able to understand, frame, assess,



critically challenge, plan, and orchestrate technical solutions – and to lead hands-on on focus topics (not a pure steering role).
- API & integration architecture – REST APIs, including designing gateways / managed, performant API usage; OSLC a strong plus.
- Solid programming/scripting ability – e.g. Java (Codebeamer's technology base) plus Python/Groovy/Bash; able to read, review, and assess code.
- Database & SQL skills – Oracle preferred (our target, including Oracle@OCI); ability to adapt to alternatives such as PostgreSQL; query analysis and optimization.
- Cloud engineering – building or migrating enterprise applications to a public cloud (Azure and OCI are our targets).
- Data & integration architecture – moving/provisioning data between systems.
- CI/CD, IaC, and version control – Git, plus Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps; automated, repeatable deployments.
- Experience operating, maintaining, and extending a purchased enterprise platform – Codebeamer strongly preferred (or Polarion, JIRA, Azure DevOps, DOORS Next).
- Strong analytical, debugging, and performance-troubleshooting skills.
- Technical leadership – leading engineers/specialists, code reviews, mentoring, owning technical outcomes.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.

Valuable to have technical skills

- Hands-on Codebeamer experience (administration, REST API, RPE, upgrades, performance tuning).
- API management / gateway technologies (e.g. Azure APIM, Kong, NGINX).
- OSLC and ALM/PLM integration experience in an automotive context.
- Experience with PTC products and vendor collaboration on technical issues/roadmap.
- Data platform & integration experience – provisioning data to a data hub/lake.
- Evaluating, integrating, and operating AI solutions (including purchased AI that integrates into a platform).
- Knowledge of BMW IT processes and the system landscape.
- Cloud migration experience – re-platforming enterprise applications to Azure / OCI.
- Azure and/or OCI certifications.
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Bicep/ARM).
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of automotive compliance & standards (ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO 27001, TISAX).
- Familiarity with agile delivery (Scrum/SAFe) in distributed Germany–India setups.
