Job Description

**Job Title:** Database Administrator (PostgreSQL & SQL Server), 4 - 9 years exp
**Location:** Onsite, Chennai 5 days a week

**Role Summary**
We are looking for a Database Administrator with strong expertise in PostgreSQL and SQL Server to handle administration, performance tuning, automation, and migrations in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

**Responsibilities**

- Administer PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backups, and restores (`pg_dump`, `pg_restore`).
- Perform performance tuning in both PostgreSQL and SQL Server, including query optimization, indexing, and memory parameter tuning.
- Analyze and interpret explain plans in PostgreSQL and SQL Server; optimize complex queries and joins.
- Design and maintain database schemas, including star schema models.
- Work with AWS RDS, Azure PostgreSQL (including Flexible Server), GCP Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, and related DB cloud services.
- Configure and manage access and connectivity using security groups and VPC/network concepts in cloud environments.
- Use PostgreSQL features such as VACUUM, memory tuning, and understand PostgreSQL architecture and cloud-specific capabilities on RDS, Azure, and GCP.




- Manage SQL Server features such as SQL Agent jobs, mirroring, Always On; support schema design, performance tuning, and query optimization in SQL Server.
- Plan and execute data migrations and heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL, using basic knowledge of MySQL, Oracle, Teradata, and DB2 where needed.
- Automate daily DBA tasks and operational routines using scripting (Python preferred, other scripting languages welcome).
- Use LLMs appropriately to assist with analysis, scripting, and documentation while maintaining quality and security.

**Requirements**

- Robust hands-on experience as a DBA with PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
- Deep knowledge of SQL, performance tuning in PostgreSQL and SQL Server, query optimization, indexing, query planning, joins, and memory parameter tuning.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, and GCP database services (RDS, Flexible Servers, Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL).
- Experience with data migrations and heterogeneous migrations to PostgreSQL.
- Scripting skills for automation (Python preferred).
- Understanding of security groups and VPC concepts in cloud environments.
- Basic exposure to MySQL, Oracle, Teradata, and DB2 for migration purposes.
