1. Provide an appropriate climate for learning, and facilitate the adult learning process by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities and directly or indirectly fostering the development of competence in the nursing staff
2. Assist learners to identify both their learning needs and the effective learning activities required to meet those needs while fostering a positive attitude about the benefits and opportunities of life-long learning.
3. Identify changes that should be made in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach and facilitating the initiation and adaptation to change.
4. Act as both a formal and informal consultant, assisting with the integration of new learning into nursing practice and serving as a resource by assisting nurses in identifying problems
5. Identify available internal and external educational resources, and select educational options
6. Assist the coordinator in designing, creating and applying research by supporting the integration of research into practice
7. Assist nursing staff to develop knowledge and skills in the research process, as well as fostering the use of systematic evaluative research with regard to clinical, educational, and managerial data.
8. Model behaviors that reflect affiliations with professional organizations as well as the community
9. Provide ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure that they maintain and enhance professional development that promotes the delivery of cost-effective high quality healthcare.
10. Collaborate with others in the practice of nursing professional development at the institutional, local, regional and state levels.
11. Participate in evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes.
12. Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness,
and cost in planning, delivering, and managing nursing career development activities.
13. ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Participate in policy decisions that affect patient care services as required
- Implement hospital policies and rules through the assigned nursing units
- Supervise nursing care provided to patients taking regular rounds
- Plan and communicate resources needed for the delivery of best nursing care in the department
- Estimate needs for facilities, supplies and equipment in various nursing units in collaboration with the nurse manager of the unit
- Establish and maintain an effective system of records and reports
- Maintain good working relationship and frequent liaison with other department managers
- Communicate regularly with the Staff Development Coordinator and give input on all matters related to nursing in the assigned area
- Assist to formulate, implement and evaluate a nursing personnel management program.
- Supervise and develop Nurse Managers and Supervisors in coordination with the Nursing Administration
- Act as a liaison officer for nursing staff in the area to give input into nursing administration decisions
- Assist to keep records and reports of Nursing Services
- Assist in Recruitment of nursing staff as per requirement
- Plan and organise continuous Nursing education for the nurses.
- Keep the Chief Nursing Officer informed of the happenings in the clinical areas
- CLINICAL PRACTICE:
- Make daily rounds on the patient care areas
- Assist in the development and timely revision of nursing procedures to enhance quality of care.
- Monitor compliance to Nursing practice standards in the assigned clinical area
- Assist to collect and analyze data related to quality indicators for the department and hospital
- Attend to patient complaints in the assigned area
- Keep abreast of new technological developments in nursing and health care.
- Evaluate clinical competency of nurses according to the established Competency Assessment program
- EDUCATIONAL:
- Ensure completion of comprehensive orientation program for all new nursing personnel.
- Participate in the assessment of learning needs and provide opportunities for staff development.
- Actively participate in nursing in-service training program
16. Evaluation Process:
- Assist to ensure the clinical competency of each nurse prior to assignment of independent patient care activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of international trends in nursing care delivery and incorporate this knowledge into daily operation of the department of nursing.
- Make every effort to make current nursing books and journals available to staff nurses and encourage research-based practice in coordination with the Chief Nursing Officer
- Seek new ways of improving the service and keep abreast of modern practice and techniques.
- QUALITY:
- Implement the quality management plan for nursing in the clinical areas
- Provide support required for quality management and improvement activities for the nursing department
18. GENERAL DUTIES:
- Arrange and participates in professional and social functions of the staff
- Maintain good public relations.
- Carry out any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Deputy Nursing Officer /Chief Nursing Officer from time to time.
