Job Description: Job Title Shift Incharge / Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I;)
Department: Steel Melting Shop (SMS)
Reports To: Head / Manager – E&I; Job Purpose To maximize plant uptime by leading shift maintenance teams, troubleshooting automation and electrical failures, and ensuring protected, continuous operation of the Steel Melting Shop (SMS). [1] Key Responsibilities 1. Breakdown & Preventive Maintenance

- Execute planned preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for all E&I; assets.
- Troubleshoot emergency breakdowns swiftly to minimize production downtime.
- Calibrate field instruments like load cells, temperature sensors, and pressure transmitters.
- Maintain critical SMS equipment: Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), Ladle Refining Furnaces (LRF), Continuous Casting Machines (CCM), and cranes. [1]

2. Automation & Process Control

- Monitor and diagnose PLC, SCADA, and DCS system faults.
- Inspect AC/DC variable frequency drives (VFDs) and soft starters.
- Configure control loops, actuators, and motorized control valves.
- Ensure accurate data logging and communication across industrial networks (Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet).

3. Shift Operations & Team Leadership

- Manage a shift team of technicians, electricians, and contract workers.
- Allocate daily maintenance tasks based on operational priorities.




- Lead shift handover meetings to report ongoing technical issues.
- Coordinate with the mechanical and production teams for smooth operations. [1]

4. Safety, Quality & Compliance

- Enforce Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) protocols before any maintenance work.
- Conduct routine job safety analyses (JSA) for hazardous shift activities.
- Maintain 5S standards within E&I; control rooms and workshops.
- Keep precise shift logs, breakdown reports, and spare parts consumption data. [1]

Required Qualifications & Skills Education & Experience

- Degree: B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience 5 to 10 years in E&I; maintenance within a steel manufacturing plant (specifically SMS). [1, 2, 3]

Technical Competencies

- Systems: Hands-on experience with Siemens, Rockwell, or ABB PLCs/Drives.
- Equipment: Deep knowledge of High-Voltage (HV) / Low-Voltage (LV) power distribution and SMS automation.
- Schematics: Advanced ability to read complex electrical drawings, P&IDs;, and logic diagrams.

Soft Skills

- Action: Strong analytical and quick decision-making skills during pressure situations.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate a frontline shift crew. [1, 2]
