Job Description: A Raw Material Supervisor in a steel company manages the receipt, storage, handling, and inventory of critical materials like iron ore, coal, and scrap. They ensure continuous supply to furnaces, enforce quality and safety standards, and maintain accurate stock records. [1, 2] Key Responsibilities 1. Material Receipt & Logistics

- Oversee the unloading of raw materials (iron ore, coal, coke, scrap, and ferroalloys) from trucks and rail wagons.
- Verify material quantities against delivery invoices and coordinate weighbridge operations.
- Prepare Goods Receipt Notes (GRNs) and track incoming/outgoing logistics. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

2. Quality Control & Assurance

- Inspect materials for size, composition, and moisture content before accepting them into the yard.
- Coordinate with the quality control and laboratory teams to ensure materials meet the steel plant's exact specifications.
- Report shortages, damages, or discrepancies immediately to the department head. [1, 2]

3. Inventory Management

- Monitor and forecast inventory levels to prevent production delays (stock-outs) or excessive stockpiling.
- Supervise the storage and systematic stacking of raw materials in designated yard areas.




- Ensure accurate data entry and reporting using the company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or SAP system. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

4. Shift Operations & Material Feeding

- Manage a team of material handlers, equipment operators, and helpers to ensure smooth, 24/7 operations.
- Oversee the preparation and feeding of raw materials to the production line (e.g., Rotary Kilns, Sponge Iron plants, or Blast Furnaces). [1, 2, 3]

5. Safety & Compliance

- Enforce strict safety guidelines in the raw material yard, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure the storage areas are organized, well-ventilated, and compliant with environmental and industrial safety regulations. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Ideal Requirements
- Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in raw material management within heavy engineering, mining, or steel industries.
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Supply Chain, or a Diploma in Engineering.
- Key Skills: Robust inventory management, proficiency in Advanced Excel and ERP systems, and excellent local area logistics knowledge. [1, 2]
