AEMO’s System Planning department is focused on efficient planning of the power system over the medium to long term, to ensure system security and reliability requirements are met in the National Electricity Market (NEM). The System Planning division is responsible for AEMO’s Integrated System Plan,



the 20-year blueprint guiding the future development of the east coast’s power system, as well as system security assessments such as the System Strength Reports and Inertia Reports. System Planning is also responsible for a range of other engineering assessments and market modelling responsibilities.
The System Planning group’s analysis can trigger major infrastructure investment, and our advice supports effective decision-making by industry and government stakeholders. This is a critical function in AEMO’s System Design division, engineering a future power system that can securely and efficiently integrate large amounts of renewable energy resources.
