The Safety Engineer is responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices across project sites. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations and company safety policies to maintain a safe working environment and prevent workplace accidents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and safety standards at project sites.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify potential hazards and unsafe working conditions.
- Perform risk assessments and recommend appropriate preventive and corrective measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, client requirements, and statutory standards.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
- Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure proper safety practices are followed.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-miss events, prepare detailed reports, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, permits, and statutory documentation.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills and evacuation exercises.
- Ensure work permits such as Hot Work, Work at Height, Confined Space Entry, Electrical Isolation, and Lifting Operations are properly implemented.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with site safety requirements.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and government authorities regarding HSE compliance.
- Support internal and external safety audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Promote a strong safety culture through continuous awareness and employee engagement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
- Diploma/Certification in Industrial Safety from a recognized institute.
- Additional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or First Aid & Fire Safety will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience as a Safety Engineer in construction, industrial, electrical, MEP, or automation projects.
- Experience in handling large commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques.
- Valuable understanding of permit-to-work systems.
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Report preparation and documentation skills.
- Ability to conduct safety training and awareness programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
