Job Description Partner (Disputes Practice)
Reporting to: Managing Partner / Close Cooperation with Bengaluru Partners
1. Role Overview
The Disputes Partner will be responsible for leading and growing the disputes and investigations practice in the Bengaluru office, combining hands-on execution with active business development and client relationship management.
The role is structured on a fixed monthly retainer with execution-linked credit, aligning incentives with both practice growth and matter execution.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Matter Execution & Strategy
- Lead and independently handle complex litigation, arbitration, regulatory, and white-collar matters.
- Develop case strategy, risk assessment, and defence positioning across forums including trial courts, High Courts, tribunals, and enforcement authorities.
- Oversee drafting of pleadings, written submissions, legal opinions, and strategy notes, ensuring high standards of quality and precision.
- Manage and mentor associates and senior associates on active matters.
- Coordinate with senior counsel, external counsel, and forensic/accounting experts where required.
B. Client Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for existing and new clients in Bengaluru and the South India market.
- Provide commercially pragmatic, regulator-safe advice, aligned with the firm's positioning in white-collar and complex disputes.
- Ensure timely response, client communication, and expectation management.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling within the firm's regulatory, advisory, and investigations practices.
C. Business Development & Practice Building
- Actively contribute to originating new mandates, including disputes, arbitrations, and investigations.
- Build and maintain relationships with:
- Corporate clients and in-house legal teams
- Financial institutions and PE funds
- Senior counsel and referral networks
- Represent the firm at industry forums, conferences, and thought leadership initiatives.
- Contribute to pitch materials, proposals, and client presentations.
- Strengthen the firm's brand visibility in the Bengaluru and South India market.
D. Revenue & Commercial Accountability
Work within the retainer + execution credit model, with:
- Fixed monthly retainer
- Execution credit based on billed and realised revenues from matters handled/executed
Support billing discipline, including:
- Matter-level scoping
- Fee proposals
- Collections tracking (in coordination with Finance)
E. Team & Office Development
- Help build and scale the Bengaluru disputes team, including recruitment and mentoring.
- Ensure adherence to the firm's:
- Quality standards
- Confidentiality and compliance protocols
- Internal reporting and knowledge-sharing practices
- Collaborate closely with partners across Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru offices.
3. Key Performance Indicators (Illustrative)
- Revenue generated through executed matters
- Origination of new mandates
- Quality and timeliness of matter execution
- Client retention and satisfaction
- Contribution to team development and office growth
- Cross-office collaboration and integration
4. Candidate Profile
- Qualified Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of India.
- Significant experience in litigation, arbitration, and/or regulatory enforcement matters.
- Strong client management and business development capabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring teams and managing complex matters.
- Excellent drafting, advocacy, negotiation, and strategic advisory skills.
- Solid commercial acumen with the ability to contribute to practice growth and client development.
