Role Purpose:
To ensure safe and compliant plant operations by implementing statutory and legal safety requirements, conducting proactive safety inspections and audits, strengthening emergency preparedness, and driving a strong safety culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to chemical industries, including DISH, PESO, CWC, GIDC, District Authorities, DIA, and other governing bodies.
- Conduct regular plant safety inspections, fire safety inspections, and safety audits, ensuring timely closure of observations.
- Perform Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), Task Risk Assessment (TRA), and recommend appropriate risk control measures.
- Carry out What-If analysis, emergency scenario development, and suggest mitigation strategies.
- Develop, implement, and periodically update Emergency Response Plans (ERP); lead emergency drills, mock drills, and fire drills.
- Execute Process Safety Management (PSM) activities including HAZOP, PSSR, and operational safety reviews.
- Develop, implement, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to health, safety, and environment.
- Ensure firefighting systems and equipment are maintained and functional 24x7, including SCBA readiness.
- Manage Occupational Health Centre (OHC) operations and coordinate medical emergency handling.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Conduct safety training programs such as Induction, Toolbox Talks (TBT), Classroom Training, PIPA, fire extinguisher usage, and PPE awareness.
- Carry out daily plant rounds to identify unsafe acts/conditions and ensure corrective actions.
- Manage Permit-to-Work systems including hot work, confined space entry, gas testing, and work at height.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, labeling, and documentation of hazardous chemicals, including MSDS management.
- Oversee hazardous area classification, safety audits, and follow-ups.
- Manage PPE distribution, maintenance, vendor coordination, and compliance monitoring.
- Maintain accurate safety records, MIS reports, and submit statutory returns to management and authorities.
- Prepare and manage safety budgets, costing, and procurement of safety and fire equipment.
- Promote a robust safety culture through awareness initiatives, campaigns, meetings, and recognition programs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
BE / B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry, Fire Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, EHS, or related discipline.
PDIS is mandatory
Experience:
- 4-7 years of relevant EHS / Safety experience
- Exposure to the chemical/manufacturing industry preferred

- Fire & Emergency Management (SCBA, Fire Systems)

Software & Systems:
ERP / SAP / Oracle, MS Excel & PowerPoint, Safety Reporting Software, IMS (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
