Role & responsibilities

1. Laboratory Operations

- Prepare laboratories for practical classes, demonstrations, and student projects.
- Set up experimental equipment and instruments before each laboratory session.
- Assist faculty during laboratory experiments and practical examinations.
- Ensure smooth functioning of undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory sessions.

2. Equipment Maintenance

- Operate, inspect, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs with vendors.
- Maintain service records, calibration certificates, and maintenance logs.
- Report equipment malfunctions and recommend replacement or upgrades when necessary.

3. Research Support

- Assist faculty, researchers, and students in conducting research experiments.
- Support fabrication, assembly, and testing of aerospace components and prototypes.
- Assist in data collection, instrumentation, and operation of testing equipment.
- Help in setting up experimental rigs for funded research projects.

4. Laboratory Safety

- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and university regulations.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and safety documentation where applicable.
- Ensure availability and proper use of PPE, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and emergency equipment.
- Promote safe handling of compressed gases, electrical systems, rotating machinery, and high-pressure equipment.

5. Inventory & Asset Management

- Maintain laboratory inventory of equipment, tools, consumables, and spare parts.
- Monitor stock levels and initiate procurement requests.
- Verify assets during annual stock audits.
- Maintain proper issue and return records for laboratory equipment.

6. Documentation

- Maintain laboratory manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Update equipment logbooks and utilization records.
- Maintain calibration and inspection records.
- Prepare laboratory reports and compliance documentation.

7. Student Support





- Guide students on the safe operation of laboratory equipment.
- Assist students during mini-projects, capstone projects, and competitions.
- Provide technical support during practical examinations.
- Help students troubleshoot laboratory experiments.

8. Procurement Support

- Prepare technical specifications for laboratory equipment.
- Obtain quotations and support procurement processes.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of recent equipment.
- Liaise with vendors for AMC, warranty, and service support.

9. Laboratory Development

- Support the establishment of new laboratories.
- Recommend modernization and automation of laboratory facilities.
- Assist in accreditation activities (NBA, NAAC, ABET, etc.) by maintaining required documentation.

10. Administrative Responsibilities

- Maintain laboratory attendance and utilization records.
- Support departmental events, workshops, FDPs, and conferences.
- Assist during inspections, audits, and accreditation visits.
- Perform other duties assigned by the HoD.

Education Qualifications:

- Diploma/B.Tech/B.E. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 25 years of relevant laboratory or industrial experience (preferred).
- Experience in operating laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

Technical Skills

- Operation of wind tunnels and aerodynamic testing equipment.
- Aircraft structures and material testing.
- Mechanical fabrication and assembly.
- Instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).
- Basic CNC machining and workshop practices.
- UAV/drone assembly and testing (desirable).
- MS Office and laboratory management software.
