GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Julius Baer is advancing its digital agenda across Asia, leveraging technology to strengthen client service, operational resilience, and sustainable growth. As part of this ambition, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Head of Digital Transformation India to lead our engineering team in Chennai.

This leadership role is central to ensuring high-quality, compliant, and timely delivery of technology initiatives while developing a capable and engaged engineering workforce. Reporting to the Head of Digital Transformation Asia, you will oversee all delivery and people aspects of the India-based engineering unit, acting as a key enabler of regional transformation outcomes.

With a solid focus on governance, collaboration, and team development, this position demands a leader who can balance operational rigour with strategic insight—driving delivery excellence within one of the world’s most respected wealth management institutions.

KEY FEATURES OF THE POSITION

Delivery Leadership

· Oversee end-to-end delivery performance of the India engineering team, ensuring alignment with project timelines, business commitments, and quality standards.

· Implement and govern structured delivery processes across agile and iterative workstreams to ensure predictability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

· Proactively identify and resolve delivery impediments, coordinating cross-functionally to manage dependencies and resource constraints.

· Monitor key delivery metrics—including on-time delivery, milestone achievement, release stability, and team velocity—and report progress to senior stakeholders.

· Prepare the organisation for scale by strengthening delivery frameworks, enhancing team capabilities, and institutionalising best practices.

Technical Oversight

· Provide expert guidance on software engineering practices, system design, and solution implementation in alignment with group technology standards.

· Ensure engineering outputs adhere to established architecture principles, integration patterns, and platform roadmaps.

· Promote consistency and maturity in development processes, including source code management, testing coverage, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.

· Collaborate with central technology functions to evaluate emerging tools, methodologies, and operating models that enhance delivery efficiency and resilience.

· Support talent development through mentoring, performance feedback, and identification of skilling needs within the engineering community.

People Management

· Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing engineering team in Chennai, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

· Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, role integration, career development planning, performance management, and offboarding.

· Conduct regular performance reviews in line with the Bank’s appraisal processes, providing constructive feedback, setting clear objectives, and identifying growth opportunities.

· Support succession planning and talent development, recognising high potential individuals and preparing them for increased responsibility.

· Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team, ensuring fair treatment, open communication, and psychological safety.

· Champion the firm’s values and behavioural expectations, addressing conduct and performance issues promptly and in accordance with HR policies.

Client & Stakeholder Management

· Serve as the principal representative for the India engineering function, building trusted relationships with regional and global delivery partners.

· Align closely with IT, Product, and Delivery teams to ensure cohesive execution across portfolios and functional boundaries.

· Communicate delivery status, risks, and strategic updates clearly and confidently to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.

· Facilitate joint planning sessions, governance meetings, and prioritisation forums to balance competing demands and optimise outcomes.

· Champion a collaborative, solution-oriented culture that values accountability, transparency,

and client focus.

Regulatory & Risk Management

· Safeguard delivery integrity by enforcing compliance with the Bank’s Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), change control, and release management policies.

· Embed strong risk and control disciplines within engineering workflows, ensuring traceability, audit readiness, and adherence to internal controls.

· Partner actively with Technology Risk, Information Security, and Internal Audit to address findings, implement action plans, and strengthen control posture.

· Ensure all developments meet regulatory expectations pertinent to financial services, particularly regarding data protection, access management, and resilient operations.

· Maintain robust documentation practices and lead preparedness for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

We are looking for a proven technology leader with substantial experience in delivering complex transformations within structured, risk-sensitive environments—ideally within financial services or private banking.

· At least 15-20 years of progressive experience in technology delivery, with significant exposure to digital transformation programmes.

· Minimum of 8-10 years in a leadership capacity, managing teams of engineers or developers in hybrid (Agile/Waterfall) environments.

· Solid understanding of software delivery governance, release management, and technology risk principles.

· Demonstrated ability to lead through change, build high-performing teams, and operate effectively in matrixed organisations.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English (written and spoken).
