Job Summary

The Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting cardiologists and interventional specialists during diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures. The role involves preparing the Cath Lab, operating specialized equipment, ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile conditions, and providing technical support during cardiac interventions.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Preparation

- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures.
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, medical history, and procedure requirements.
- Assist in positioning patients and preparing the procedural site.
- Monitor patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures.

Cath Lab Procedure Support

- Assist cardiologists during angiography, angioplasty, stenting, pacemaker implantation, electrophysiology studies, and other interventional procedures.
- Prepare and arrange catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other consumables required for procedures.
- Maintain sterile techniques and infection control standards throughout procedures.
- Provide technical assistance during emergency cardiac interventions.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

- Operate Cath Lab imaging and monitoring equipment.
- Monitor hemodynamic parameters and record procedural data.
- Ensure proper functioning of Cath Lab equipment before and after procedures.




- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment with the Biomedical Engineering team.

Radiation Safety

- Adhere to radiation safety protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure proper use of radiation protection devices for patients and staff.
- Monitor radiation exposure and maintain radiation safety records.

Inventory Management

- Maintain adequate stock of Cath Lab consumables and emergency supplies.
- Track usage and expiry dates of medical supplies.
- Coordinate with stores and procurement teams for replenishment of inventory.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain accurate procedure records and patient documentation.
- Record procedural details, equipment usage, and consumables utilized.
- Assist in preparing Cath Lab reports and maintaining departmental records.

Infection Control & Quality Compliance

- Follow hospital infection prevention and control policies.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation activities.
- Comply with NABH, AERB, and hospital safety standards.

Emergency Response

- Assist in handling cardiac emergencies and code blue situations.
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment, crash carts, and resuscitation devices.
