Refrigeration Executive – Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary
The Refrigeration Executive is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of refrigeration systems, cold rooms, blast freezers, and utility equipment to ensure uninterrupted cooling and preservation of frozen food products. The role is critical for maintaining the cold chain, ensuring food safety, and minimizing equipment downtime.
Roles & Responsibilities1. Refrigeration System Operations
- Operate and monitor refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, cooling towers, and chilled water systems.
- Maintain the required temperatures in blast freezers, cold rooms, freezer storage, and production areas.
- Ensure continuous operation of refrigeration equipment during all shifts.
- Monitor suction pressure, discharge pressure, oil levels, refrigerant levels, and compressor performance.
2. Cold Chain Management
- Ensure frozen products are maintained at the required storage temperature (typically -18°C or below, as per product specifications).
- Monitor and record cold room and freezer temperatures.
- Report and rectify any temperature deviations immediately.
- Minimize door opening time to maintain cold room efficiency.
3. Preventive Maintenance
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of refrigeration equipment.
- Lubricate equipment as per maintenance schedules.
- Replace filters, belts, valves, and worn-out components when required.
- Coordinate annual overhauls and shutdown maintenance activities.
4. Breakdown Maintenance
- Attend equipment breakdowns promptly.
- Diagnose faults and carry out corrective maintenance.
- Coordinate with external service providers for major repairs.
- Maintain minimum downtime of refrigeration systems.
5. Refrigerant Management
- Monitor refrigerant levels and identify leaks.
- Safely handle refrigerants such as ammonia (NH₃), Freon, or other approved refrigerants.
- Ensure leak testing and corrective actions are completed immediately.
- Maintain records of refrigerant usage and replenishment.
6. Utility Equipment Monitoring
- Monitor utility equipment associated with refrigeration, including:
- Air compressors
- Cooling towers
- Chillers
- Pumps
- Condensers
- Evaporators
- Ensure all utility equipment operates efficiently.
7. Documentation
Maintain accurate records of:
- Daily refrigeration logbook
- Temperature monitoring records
- Preventive maintenance checklists
- Breakdown reports
- Refrigerant consumption records
- Energy consumption reports
- Calibration records
- Utility equipment inspection reports
- Shift handover reports
8. Safety Compliance
- Follow all electrical and mechanical safety procedures.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
- Report unsafe conditions and near-miss incidents immediately.
- Ensure emergency response procedures are followed in case of refrigerant leaks.
9. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- FSSAI regulations
- GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- GHP (Positive Hygiene Practices)
- HACCP
- ISO 22000 / FSSC 22000 / BRCGS (as applicable)
- Ensure refrigeration systems support product safety and cold chain integrity.
10. Energy Management
- Monitor electricity consumption of refrigeration systems.
- Identify opportunities to reduce energy usage.
- Optimize equipment performance without affecting product quality.
11. Coordination
- Coordinate with Production to maintain required process temperatures.
- Work closely with Maintenance, Quality, and Warehouse teams.
- Support external technicians during annual maintenance or major repairs.
- Assist during customer and regulatory audits.
Qualifications
- Education: ITI / Diploma / B.E. in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–6 years in industrial refrigeration systems, preferably in the Frozen Food, Food Processing, Cold Storage, Dairy, Seafood, or FMCG industry.
Pay: Up to ₹40,000.00 per month
