Job Title: Optometrist

Department: Ophthalmology
Location: Malar Hospital, Hosur
Reporting To: Ophthal Incharge

Job Summary:

The Optometrist is responsible for examining, diagnosing, and managing patients’ vision and eye health. They assist ophthalmologists by performing vision tests, prescribing corrective lenses, and supporting pre- and post-operative eye care.

Key Responsibilities:

- Perform comprehensive eye examinations using standard optometric instruments and techniques.
- Diagnose refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, etc.) and prescribe appropriate corrective lenses.
- Conduct vision screening for patients across all age groups.
- Assist ophthalmologists in diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
- Perform tests such as tonometry, visual field testing, and retinal imaging.
- Educate patients on eye care, lens use, and preventive measures.
- Provide pre- and post-operative counseling and support for surgical patients.
- Maintain accurate patient records and document test results.




- Assist in selecting and fitting appropriate frames and lenses if an in-house optical is available.
- Ensure equipment is calibrated and maintained regularly.
- Follow infection control protocols and maintain clinical hygiene.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the relevant Optometry Council (if applicable).
- 2–3 years of experience in clinical optometry preferred

Skills Required:

- Solid knowledge of optometric instruments and vision testing procedures.
- Good communication and patient-handling skills.
- Ability to work closely with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals.
- Computer literacy for data entry and report generation.
- Professional, compassionate, and detail-oriented approach to patient care.
