Why this role exists:

The AI Technical Associate Manager is a pioneering role within a newly established AI capability, responsible for bridging the gap between traditional machine learning and modern generative AI. As a senior technical authority, this role designs AI solutions enhancing customer and team member experiences.This role leads the transition from standard ML systems to advanced AI capabilities, ensuring that these new technologies are scalable, governed, and commercially impactful.

In this role you will:

AI Architecture & Strategy

- Design AI/ML and agentic architectures on GCP (Vertex AI) and Snowflake (as the enterprise data platform) and other source-of-record platforms as required (eg. Salesforce, SuccessFactors).
- Define the Model Context Protocol (MCP) layer, including the management of tools, resources, memory, and connectors.
- Lead the transition from ML to AI, providing the technical vision and adaptability required to implement new technologies.
- Partner with Data Architects to align AI builds with broader enterprise data strategy.

MLOps & Engineering Excellence

- Lead MLOps and LLMOps workstreams, establishing robust pipelines for deployment, monitoring, and model governance.
- Oversee scalable data pipelines to ensure high-quality data ingestion and processing for AI use cases.
- Establish engineering best practices for the newly formed AI developer team, ensuring code quality and architectural integrity.

Strategic Leadership & Process Improvement

- Act as a senior technical mentor, fostering a growth mindset and actively sharing knowledge with team members and stakeholders.




- Identify and execute process improvement opportunities within the AI development lifecycle to increase delivery velocity.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, regularly seeking to refine MLOps pipelines and architectural patterns.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure the technical roadmap delivers maximum commercial value with minimal friction.

Who you will be working with:

- Insights & Data Teams: Partnering with AI Engineers and Cloud Leads to bring architectural solutions to reality.
- Leadership: Collaborating with leadership and Enterprise Architects (inc Enterprise Data Architect), to align delivery with corporate strategy.
- Technical Stakeholders: Liaising with system and data owners across Finance, Merchandise, and Supply Chain to optimise data provisioning for AI.

Qualifications and work experience:

Essential

- Education: Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience: 8-10+ years in senior technical roles, with a proven track record in designing and maintaining complex machine learning (ML) systems.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to lead the "leap" from traditional ML to modern AI and agentic architectures.
- Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in GitHub, Snowflake, and GCP (specifically Vertex AI).
- Leadership: Experience leading technical teams and mentoring senior developers in agile, high-pressure environments.

Preferred

- Industry Context: Experience in large-scale, complex retail or omnichannel environments.
- Domain Knowledge: Understanding of SAP BW migration and data sphere transitions.
