Job Description:
The Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and operate highly reliable, scalable, and secure payment systems supporting end-to-end transaction lifecycles, including authorization, capture, settlement, and reconciliation. This role requires strong expertise in distributed systems, API and microservices development, and event-driven architectures, with a deep understanding of financial transaction processing, emphasizing data consistency, resiliency, and regulatory compliance. The engineer will collaborate closely with partners, product, business, and operations teams to deliver seamless, secure, and high-performing payment experiences across multiple channels. The role demands ownership of systems that meet stringent availability and latency requirements, ensuring accurate and productive processing of mission-critical financial transactions. The Sr Software Engineer actively participates in architecture and design of various software components focused on creating applications that leverage technologies such as API Gateway and Application micro services, Databases, Virtualization, CI/CD automation & Telemetry.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate highly reliable, scalable, and secure payment systems supporting end-to-end workflows including authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, and reconciliation.
- Develop and maintain microservices and APIs for payment processing, ensuring low latency, idempotency, and fault tolerance.
- Implement event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Rabbit MQ or similar) to support asynchronous transaction processing and real-time state propagation.
- Ensure data consistency and integrity across distributed systems, leveraging appropriate patterns (e.g., Saga, CQRS, eventual consistency).
- Integrate with external payment gateways, processors, banks,
and third-party providers, handling diverse protocols and SLAs.
- Build and enhance fraud detection hooks, risk controls, and observability frameworks (metrics, logging, tracing) for transaction monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, regulatory standards, and security best practices, including encryption, tokenization, and secure coding.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Business, Risk, Finance, and Operations teams to deliver seamless and secure payment experiences.
- Drive system reliability and availability (99.99%+), including incident management, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
- Contribute to Design decisions, code reviews, and technical mentorship, raising engineering standards across the team.
- (For Full Stack scope) Design and develop intuitive, high-performance UI components for payment flows, dashboards, and operational tools using modern frontend frameworks.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree: Computer Science or Engineering (Required)
Work Experience:
- 58+ years of professional experience in software development, with significant exposure to payment systems or fintech platforms.
- Proven experience building distributed systems and microservices architectures in production environments.
- Hands-on experience integrating with payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, PayPal) or banking/payment networks is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
with CI/CD pipelines and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Demonstrated experience in full stack development (backend + frontend) is a plus, especially in building customer-facing or operational payment interfaces.
- Experience with Splunk, AppD/OTEL and Grafana
Skills Required
- Java, Spring boot, Angular or react, SQL and NO SQL, Cassandra, Kafka or rabbit mq, Or Splunk and and Grafana
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Spring Boot,
- Deep understanding of payment domain concepts: transaction lifecycle, authorization flows, settlement, chargebacks, interchange, and reconciliation.
- Expertise in API design (REST/graphQL/ gRPC), versioning, and contract-first development.
- Solid grasp of distributed systems principles: scalability, resiliency, fault tolerance, and observability.
- Experience with event streaming platforms (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar) and asynchronous processing patterns.
- Knowledge of database technologies (SQL/NoSQL) and data modeling for high-throughput transactional systems.
- Strong understanding of security best practices, including encryption, tokenization, OAuth, and PCI compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with high-availability design patterns, load balancing, caching, and performance tuning.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and drive root cause analysis and remediation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where system uptime and correctness are critical.
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks and Tools
- Hands-on experience in automation frameworks or AI-driven orchestration
