About the Role
The Head Production Planning & Control (PPC) will lead the end-to-end production planning function across all manufacturing units, ensuring optimum utilization of manufacturing capacity while balancing customer demand, inventory levels, procurement constraints, and production efficiencies.
This is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving integrated production planning, demand alignment, capacity optimization, material availability, and execution excellence across multiple manufacturing locations. The role requires close collaboration with Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Sales, Commercial, Logistics, Quality, Engineering, and Finance to ensure uninterrupted product availability with optimum inventory and manufacturing costs.
The incumbent will also play a key role in strengthening S&OP; processes, digital planning capabilities, and data-driven decision making across the manufacturing network.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Lead centralized production planning across 8 manufacturing plants and multiple production lines.
- Develop monthly, weekly, and daily production plans aligned with business demand.
- Optimize production schedules considering plant capacities, changeovers, manpower availability, machine utilization, and material availability.
- Ensure balanced production across manufacturing facilities to maximize throughput and minimize idle capacity.
- Monitor schedule adherence and drive corrective actions for deviations.
Demand & Supply Planning
- Translate sales forecasts into executable production plans.
- Collaborate with Sales, Demand Planning, and Supply Chain teams to align production with market requirements.
- Ensure adequate finished goods availability while minimizing inventory holding costs.
- Balance production priorities across multiple SKUs, categories, and manufacturing locations.
- Drive demand fulfilment through proactive planning and cross-functional coordination.
Capacity Planning & Optimization
- Develop short-term and long-term capacity plans.
- Evaluate plant loading and optimize production allocation across factories.
- Identify capacity bottlenecks and recommend improvement initiatives.
- Drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement through better planning.
- Support expansion planning, new production lines, and manufacturing capability enhancement.
Inventory Planning & Control
- Optimize Raw Material, Packaging Material, WIP, and Finished Goods inventory.
- Monitor inventory health and improve inventory turnover.
- Reduce excess inventory, slow-moving stock, and stock-outs.
- Ensure production plans are synchronized with procurement and warehouse operations.
- Drive inventory accuracy across manufacturing locations.
Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP;)
- Lead the production planning component of the monthly S&OP; cycle.
- Participate in demand review, supply review, and executive S&OP; meetings.
- Present capacity constraints, production risks, and mitigation plans.
- Ensure alignment between demand forecasts and manufacturing capabilities.
- Support business leadership with planning insights for strategic decision-making.
Manufacturing Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Plant Heads and Production Managers across all manufacturing locations.
- Monitor daily production execution against approved plans.
- Resolve production bottlenecks through cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure smooth coordination between manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, quality, and logistics teams.
- Drive production stability across multiple manufacturing units.
Material Planning & Procurement Coordination
- Ensure timely availability of Raw Materials and Packaging Materials.
- Work closely with Procurement to prevent material shortages.
- Identify supply risks impacting production schedules.
- Support vendor planning and procurement prioritization.
- Improve planning accuracy through better material forecasting.
Planning Analytics & Digital Transformation
- Build planning dashboards and performance scorecards.
- Drive data-driven production planning decisions.
- Improve planning accuracy using ERP and advanced analytics.
- Lead automation initiatives in production planning.
- Strengthen ERP planning processes and master data governance.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor the centralized PPC team across locations.
- Standardize planning processes across all manufacturing plants.
- Develop SOPs, planning governance, and performance review mechanisms.
- Build high-performing planning capabilities through coaching and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Experience, Skills & Attributes
- 12-18 years of experience in Production Planning & Control within FMCG, Food Processing, Consumer Goods, Beverages, Personal Care, or related manufacturing industries.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing multi-plant production planning.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or related disciplines); MBA in Operations/Supply Chain preferred.
- Strong understanding of production planning, capacity planning, demand planning, inventory management, and S&OP.;
- Experience managing production planning across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Solid analytical and data-driven decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor, or similar manufacturing systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Power BI or other business intelligence tools is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a continuous improvement mindset.
