Position : Quality Assistant/Deputy Manager - Machine Shop Head

Location : Thirumazhisai, Chennai

Reports To: Quality Manager & Plant Head

Position Overview

The Quality Assistant Manager will lead the machine shop operations with a robust focus on quality assurance, process improvement, and compliance. This role requires balancing hands-on technical expertise with managerial oversight to ensure production efficiency, adherence to standards, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision

- Head the machine shop team, overseeing daily operations and workforce allocation.
- Mentor and guide machinists, inspectors, and operators to achieve quality and productivity goals.

Quality Management

- Implement and monitor quality control systems across machining processes.
- Conduct root cause analysis for defects and drive corrective/preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, TS,AS, or other relevant quality standards.

Process Improvement

- Optimize machining processes to reduce rejection, scrap, and rework.




- Introduce lean manufacturing and Six Sigma practices for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to enhance tooling and process reliability.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain inspection records, calibration logs, and quality documentation.
- Prepare reports on shop performance, quality metrics, and improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Management

- Liaise with suppliers for quality-related issues and ensure incoming material compliance.
- Coordinate with customers during audits, inspections, and technical reviews.

Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelors degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 10 to 12 years of experience in machining operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory/assistant manager role.
- Strong knowledge of CNC, VMC, HMC machining, tooling, and precision engineering.
- Expertise in quality systems (IATF 16949, etc.).
- Proficiency in problem-solving tools (SPC, 8D, and Root Cause Analysis).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Hands-on proficiency with MS Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
