Role & responsibilities
Description
We are looking for a Senior Thermal Engineer to serve as the principal subject matter expert and technical authority for electronics thermal management. This is a hands-on R&D; leadership role and you will own the product development cycle from concept and simulation through prototyping, testing, and production release, while mentoring a growing engineering team
Key Responsibilities
- Lead thermal-fluid design of liquid cooling assemblies and heat exchange systems for high-power-density electronics.
- Lead the development of thermal experiments and testing.
- Own thermal architecture decisions: flow paths, channel geometry, surface enhancements, pressure drop vs. thermal resistance trade-offs.
- Conduct and oversee CFD/conjugate heat transfer simulations (ANSYS Fluent/CFX, COMSOL, or equivalent); critically interpret results and drive design iterations.
- Design and execute thermal-hydraulic test programs; correlate test data with simulation models.
- Drive material selection for thermal performance, corrosion resistance, and manufacturability.
- Expert level knowledge in phase change heat transfer and two-phase flow systems
- Mentor junior engineers on simulation, testing, thermal fundamentals, and DFM principles.
- Familiarity with brazing, CNC machining,
stamping, and additive processes.
- Interpretation of test results and simulation results.
Preferred candidate profile
15+ years in thermal-fluid for electronics cooling or related heat transfer applications.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or Heat Transfer.
- Expert knowledge of heat transfer: conduction, convection, radiation, and phase change (boiling, condensation, latent heat).
- Deep proficiency with CFD/thermal simulation tools (ANSYS Fluent, CFX, Icepak, COMSOL, or FloTHERM).
- Proven experience with thermal-hydraulic test setup design, and model-test correlation.
- Robust fluid mechanics background: pressure drop across microchannels, flow maldistribution, hydraulic balancing.
- Working knowledge of thermal materials science: TIMs, brazed/soldered joints, galvanic corrosion, coolant compatibility.
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or NX), GD&T;, and tolerance analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ASHRAE thermal guidelines.
- Hands-on prototype fabrication: brazing, leak testing, coolant loop commissioning.
- Published research or patents in electronics thermal.
- Experience building an R&D; team
