Job Summary
The Assistant Manager – Retail Design will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing retail stores across all formats while ensuring consistency in brand identity, customer experience, and operational efficiency. The role involves developing innovative store concepts, preparing technical drawings, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring timely execution of new store openings (NSO), revamps, and renovations.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Design & Concept Development
- Develop innovative retail store concepts aligned with the company's brand identity.
- Design customer-centric store layouts that enhance shopping experience and optimize space utilization.
- Create display concepts, fixture designs, and merchandising layouts for multiple store formats.
- Develop scalable design solutions that can be implemented across regions.
- Design recent store facades and recommend architectural improvements for existing stores.
- Continuously explore new materials, finishes, and design trends to improve store aesthetics and durability.
- Optimize store designs while maintaining project budgets and cost efficiency.
Architectural Planning & Design Documentation
- Prepare concept drawings, detailed drawings, GFC (Good for Construction) drawings, and working drawings.
- Develop store-specific design documentation based on site conditions.
- Prepare BOQs and coordinate with vendors wherever required.
- Ensure all drawings comply with applicable building codes, safety standards, and company guidelines.
- Standardize retail design templates and documentation for future projects.
Project Execution
- Plan design implementation for New Store Openings (NSO), store renovations, and expansion projects.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure design intent is maintained during execution.
- Review site progress and provide technical guidance during construction.
- Resolve design-related issues during implementation.
- Monitor project timelines and ensure timely completion of assigned projects.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and vendors throughout project execution.
- Collaborate with procurement teams for sourcing materials and fixtures.
- Work closely with mall management and external agencies for design approvals and statutory requirements.
- Evaluate new vendors and innovative materials to improve quality and cost efficiency.
Operational Excellence
- Conduct regular store visits for design audits and quality inspections.
- Ensure consistency in execution across all retail locations.
- Monitor implementation quality and recommend corrective actions wherever necessary.
- Track design performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support cross-functional teams during store launches and expansion activities.
Required Skills & Competencies Technical Skills
- Solid knowledge of retail architecture and store planning.
- Expertise in space planning, anthropometry, and customer journey design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering software such as Lumion, Enscape, or V-Ray.
- Robust understanding of working drawings, GFC drawings, and construction detailing.
- Knowledge of retail fixtures, materials, finishes, and construction methodologies.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.

Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture (B.Arch) or Interior Design from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Council of Architecture (preferred for Architects).
Experience
- 4–7 years of experience in Retail Design, Retail Architecture, Commercial Interiors, or Store Planning.
- Experience in retail expansion, store rollout, or multi-location retail projects is preferred.
- Experience in furniture, lifestyle, home dcor, fashion, or large-format retail brands will be an added advantage.
