Job description
The Global Network Engineering & Operations (GNEO) organization is responsible for the architecture, engineering, and operational integrity of the enterprise's global telecommunications and network infrastructure. GNEO's mission is to design, deliver, and operate scalable, resilient, and secure network solutions that support business capabilities across all regions and lines of business. GNEO engineers and designs advanced network and transport systems to meet evolving business requirements, strategic initiatives, and long-term technology roadmaps. This includes a wide range of transport and IP topologies, modern network services, automation frameworks, and standards-based network architectures aligned with Telecom Strategy & Architecture guidelines.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Network Operations Engineer to ensure the availability, performance, and reliability of our global network infrastructure. This role operates at the intersection of real-time monitoring, incident response, automation, and continuous improvement, supporting mission-critical services across enterprise and customer-facing environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Monitoring & Incident Management
- Monitor network health across WAN, LAN, data center, and cloud environments.
- Detect, triage, and resolve incidents impacting performance or availability.
- Lead or participate in major incident response (MIM) bridges.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive post-incident reviews.
- Serve as an escalation point for Tier 1/Tier 2 NOC.
- Network Operations & Reliability
- Implement and hand off solutions using automation with clear testing strategies.
- Maintain uptime and performance SLAs for critical services.
- Support routing, switching, and network security infrastructure.
- Support Wireless, VoIP, and Video Conferencing services integrations.
- Execute change management activities with minimal service disruptions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on capacity planning and upgrades.
- Approve emergency changes, MOP deviations, and change extensions.
- Occasionally be available for calls and escalations that are outside of normal business hours.
- Lead engagement with NetDevOps teams to identify gaps and drive improvements in runbooks and workflows.
- Automation & Tooling
- Use Disney's automated tooling for repetitive operational tasks.
- Leverage scripting (e.g., Python) to improve efficiency and reduce MTTR.
- Use integrated observability tools (logs, metrics, traces) into workflows.
- Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and network automation initiatives.
- Mentor junior staff on tool and automation use.
- Identify repetitive alerts and actions and define auto-remediation initiatives.
- Observability & Proactive Operations
- Analyze telemetry data to identify trends, anomalies, and risks.
- Improve alert quality (reduce noise, increase signal).
- Drive proactive incident prevention and predictive maintenance.
- Support implementation of modern observability frameworks (e.g., OpenTelemetry).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with other NetDevOps teams across the globe, Network Engineering, Security, Cloud, and Application teams.
- Support vendor escalations and service provider coordination.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders during incidents and outages.
- Author and maintain runbooks, decision trees, and knowledge base content.
Qualifications:
- Must Haves (Years of Experience, languages, programs, tools, etc.).
- 5-8+ years of experience in network operations or NOC environments.
- Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols: OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, STP, Fabric Path, VXLAN.
- Experience with core network technologies: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst Center (DNAC), Aruba, and wireless controller environments.
- Experience with Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama management platforms.
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies and F5 load balancers.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, Datadog, Splunk).
- Demonstrated experience leading network automation efforts using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar infrastructure-as-code concepts.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and stakeholders.
- Proven track record collaborating with cross-functional technical and application teams.
- Customer-focused mindset with solid ownership and follow-through.
- Strong knowledge/experience in wide and local area network design, configuration, installation, evaluation, and problem resolution.
- Working knowledge of LAN environments, including hardware, software, and cabling for Ethernet; experience with platforms such as Cisco Nexus/ASR.
- Experience interfacing network services with Wireless, VoIP, and Video Conferencing in a multi-platform environment.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting cloud provider network services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Strong knowledge of network security and firewalls.
- Solid understanding of fiber-based networks.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite.
Certifications:
- Cisco CCNP.
- Palo Alto PCCET / Cybersecurity Apprentice, and Cybersecurity Practitioner.
