Service line - Position Title: Business Consulting - Senior Consultant-Upstream Oil and Gas
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Consultant for our Business Consulting practice within the Upstream Oil & Gas domain. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of upstream operations, hands-on consulting experience, and the ability to independently deliver high-quality analytical and transformation workstreams.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Consulting Delivery
- Support and deliver consulting engagements across the upstream value chain: exploration, drilling, well operations, production operations, reservoir management, field development.
- Own specific workstreams and conduct detailed analyses, assessments, and solution design for upstream transformation projects.
- Contribute to operational excellence initiatives including: performance optimisation, production efficiency, asset integrity, maintenance and reliability improvement, and sustainability.
- Apply digital tools and technologies IoT, analytics, cloud platforms, automation, digital twins to generate operational insights for clients.
- Project Execution
- Develop high-quality deliverables including reports, presentations, process maps, data analyses, and business cases.
- Support work planning, risk identification, governance reporting, and stakeholder communication for assigned workstreams.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and SMEs across global EY member firms.
- Client Engagement
- Work directly with client stakeholders to gather requirements, validate findings, present insights, and support solution adoption.
- Maintain strong professional relationships and contribute to a positive client experience.
- Team Support & Capability Development
- Mentor junior analysts/consultants and support knowledge-building efforts within the team.
- Contribute to internal frameworks, accelerators, and thought leadership related to upstream transformation.
- Business Development (Support Role)
- Assist in proposal development, research, and preparation of solution decks.
- Contribute to constructing upstream-focused value propositions and case studies.
Skills and attributes for success
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or related).
- 6+ years of relevant experience, with a mix of upstream oil & gas industry work and/or consulting exposure.
- Hands-on involvement in upstream domains such as drilling operations, well performance, production optimisation, reservoir workflows, or asset operations.
- Solid problem-solving and structured thinking abilities.
- Ability to create and present high-quality client deliverables.
- Exposure to digital transformation in upstream operations:
- IoT, cloud, analytics, automation, digital twin, surveillance systems, etc.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and teamwork skills in multicultural environments.
Good to have
- Master's degree (MBA or related).
- Certifications: PMP, PRINCE2, Lean, Reliability Engineering, or Digital Transformation credentials.
- Experience with upstream technology platforms (e.g., OSI PI/SCADA, asset management systems, drilling or production analytics tools).
- Experience working with global consulting firms or energy-focused advisory teams.
- Willingness to travel for client engagements.
