Overview

Objectives of the role:

- The Accounting Manager is a key member of the General Mills accounting ONE TEAM, accountable to the Assistant Controller for overseeing the daily accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial accounting data, and maintaining compliance with accounting principles and General Mills policies. This role demands strong technical accounting acumen and the ability to analyze financial statements effectively. A key aspect of this position involves collaborating closely with all levels of the General Mills Global Accounting Organization. Additionally, the Accounting Manager must possess the ability to manage and mentor a team of accountants, perform detailed financial review and analysis, and work in partnership with the Assistant Controller to uphold financial integrity and drive continuous process improvements.

- Apply strong technical accounting acumen and analytical skills to interpret financial data, investigate variances, and ensure the integrity of financial information through understanding and ability to teach the “WHY”.
- Lead and Coach their direct team, foster collaboration, and effectively communicate upwards to the Assistant Controller and other business partners.
- Identify errors upfront and execute effective preventive controls that provide confidence in financial results.
- Implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
- Understanding of upstream consequences to the business that under / poor performance could lead to issues with Auditors and Regulators.




- Mentor junior accountants on accounting acumen and foster a mindset of being a proactive accountant.

Key Accountabilities

- Oversee, support, and develop a team of accountants, fostering an environment of trust, productivity, and continuous learning.
- Expertise in the subject matter of your team, understanding end to end processes and how they fit together and the ability to identify when different transactions/processes impact each other
- Ensure that the period close activities within their areas of responsibility are executed seamlessly, contributing to the completeness, accuracy, and validity of financial statements.
- Assisting/Liaising with Auditors to resolve queries/request.
- Review balance sheet account reconciliations, journal entries, and other ad-hoc reports to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Actively participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing accounting processes, efficiency, and control.
- Partner and collaborate with the Assistant Controller and General Mills Accounting teams to gain business insights and ensure the quality of financial deliveries.
- Manage team performance through regular one-on-one discussions,



performance reviews, and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
- Ensure the accounting team is well-versed in General Mills accounting policies and procedures, providing regular updates and explaining their implications to maintain compliance and best practices.
- Plan and execute work allocation for the accounting team, continuously monitoring progress to ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
- Provide active support and contribute to transformation projects, particularly those impacting accounting processes and systems.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with General Mills Accounting Team’s Communities of Practice (COPs).
- Communicate, address and resolve escalated issues or inquiries from the team and General Mills partners, ensuring timely and effective solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

Required skills and qualifications:

- Demonstrated solid understanding and application of accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to lead a high performing team of X to X people
- Excellent communication skills across all levels of the Accounting Team both written and oral
- Problem Solving, Critical and Analytical thinking, Thought Leadership & Influencing leadership.
- Strong understanding of financial statement components and the ability to deep dive to the grass-roots level to understand underlying transactions within their areas of responsibility.
- Experience in managing accounting teams, build synergy with other teams with focus on streamlining accounting processes.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

- B.Com/ M.Com/ MBA Finance/ Inter CA/ Inter CWA
- 11-13 years relevant experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
- Working knowledge of SAP, Hyperion (HFM), Blackline and OneStream is an added advantage.
