Job Summary

The Python Engineer II builds and maintains backend and system-level features. This role focuses on production Python software, Linux system management, MySQL integration, REST APIs, and virtualization workflows. The engineer is responsible for developing high-quality, cutting-edge, fully performing software in compliance with coding standards. This individual works in partnership with cross-functional teams to ensure that software deliverables, including designs, codes, and tests, are completed in a timely manner while remaining aligned with industry and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

- Provides support to the Engineering team, with a high attention to detail
- Designs, builds, and maintains Python services and APIs
- Works on systems critical to the organizations current and future operations
- Debugs production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Assists with improvement of organizational engineering standards, tooling, and processes
- Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing, and certification of software
- Evaluates codes to ensure validity, proper structure, alignment with industry standards, and compatibility with operating systems
- Maintains an understanding of current and new technologies or programming practices through continuing education, reading, and participation in professional conferences, workshops, or groups

Mandatory Experience

Strong hands-on experience with Python, Linux, and MySQL is mandatory. Candidates must have production-level Linux experience, including regular administration, troubleshooting, and management of Linux-based servers in a live production environment. Applicants who work with Linux servers on a daily basis as part of their current role will also be considered suitable.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required

- 2+ years of practical experience building and supporting production software with Python
- Strong Python fundamentals, including object-oriented programming,



error handling, testing, debugging, and package management
- Strong Linux fundamentals and confidence working from the command line
- Practical database experience, including schema inspection, joins, transactions, indexes and SQL troubleshooting
- Experience with Git, code reviews, automated tests, and CI/CD workflows
- Proven experience working in a Scrum or Agile software team
- Ability to work independently on projects and processes with close supervision
- Knowledge of a variety of the fields concepts, practices, and procedures
- Ability to work constructively and independently under stress and pressure in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment
- Ability to interact positively and openly with colleagues and external business contacts, with robust verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of relevant software development tools including version control, build processes, debuggers, and test frameworks

Nice to Have
- Experience with AWS infrastructure or cloud services
- Experience with MongoDB
- Experience with Grafana or similar monitoring and observability tools
- Understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, VPNs, and port forwarding
- Experience with virtualization technologies or APIs, such as KVM, QEMU, libvirt, VMware, or Hyper-V
- Understanding of virtual machine lifecycle, virtual disks, snapshots, recovery points, and virtual networking
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, or business continuity products

Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience
- Bachelor s degree in related field or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of production Python software engineering experience
- Direct experience with Python, Linux, and REST APIs is required

Working Conditions
- Hybrid/Remote/On-site depending on location
- 0-10% travel may be required
