Role Overview
The Graduate Trainee / Post Graduate Trainee Quality Control will undergo structured training in laboratory operations, cement quality testing, process quality monitoring, and quality assurance systems within a cement manufacturing plant. The trainee will work under the guidance of senior Quality Control professionals to learn laboratory testing procedures, BIS standards, analytical techniques, and quality management systems while supporting day-to-day quality activities. The objective is to develop technical competency and prepare the trainee for independent responsibilities in the Quality Control department.
Core Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Operations & Testing
- Assist in sampling and testing of limestone, laterite, iron ore, raw meal, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, slag, and finished cement.
- Learn laboratory testing procedures as per BIS and internal quality standards.
- Perform routine physical and chemical analysis under supervision.
- Support operation of laboratory equipment such as XRF, XRD, Compression Testing Machine, Blaine Apparatus, Sieves, and other analytical instruments.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) within the laboratory.
2. Process Quality Monitoring
- Assist in monitoring quality parameters across Raw Mill, Kiln, Cement Mill, and Packing Plant.
- Record and maintain laboratory observations accurately.
- Support senior chemists in identifying process variations.
- Learn interpretation of quality parameters including:
- Lime Saturation Factor (LSF)
- Silica Modulus (SM)
- Alumina Modulus (AM)
- Free Lime
- Blaine Fineness
- Residue
- Setting Time
- Compressive Strength
- Soundness
- Loss on Ignition (LOI)
3. Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Maintain laboratory records and testing reports.
- Assist in preparation of Daily Quality Reports and MIS.
- Support calibration and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Learn BIS specifications applicable to cement products.
- Assist during internal and external quality audits.
4. Data Analysis & Learning
- Analyze laboratory data under supervision.
- Assist in identifying trends in quality performance.
- Learn Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts and quality improvement tools.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and quality projects.
- Develop understanding of cement manufacturing processes from raw material to dispatch.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Follow plant safety rules and laboratory safety procedures.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Adhere to Quality, Safety, Environment, and Health Management Systems.
- Report unsafe conditions and abnormal observations immediately.
6. Cross-Functional Exposure
- Coordinate with Production, Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Mines, and Dispatch departments during training.
- Participate in technical discussions and plant learning sessions.
- Support quality improvement initiatives across departments.
- Gain exposure to plant operations and process optimization.

Technical Skills Required
- Basic knowledge of Chemistry and Analytical Techniques.
- Understanding of laboratory testing procedures.
- Basic knowledge of cement manufacturing processes (preferred).
- Familiarity with laboratory instruments is an added advantage.
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint).
- Good numerical and analytical aptitude.
