Job Description: A Fitter for a coal washery is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of mechanical equipment used in the coal preparation process, such as crushers, conveyors, pumps, and screens. The role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety protocols in an industrial environment. Key Responsibilities

- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and equipment, including pumps, compressors, crushers, and conveyor systems.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Conduct diagnostic testing on malfunctioning systems to identify the root cause of the problem and implement effective corrective actions.
- Fabrication and Assembly: Construct and assemble structural components from raw materials, using hand and power tools, and operate welding equipment as needed.
- Inspection and Quality Control: Inspect fabricated components and repaired systems to ensure they meet specifications, quality standards, and proper fit using precision measuring tools.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to determine specifications and installation methods.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to all site safety rules, regulations, and industry standards, including those outlined in the Mines Act, to ensure a safe working environment.
- Record-Keeping:



Maintain accurate logs and records of all maintenance and repair activities performed, and inform supervisors of problems beyond the scope of their role.
- Inventory Management: Assist with managing the inventory of spare parts and other supplies, ordering replacements as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education/Certification: Typically requires a high school diploma or GED and relevant technical qualifications, such as an advanced craft certificate or diploma in plant fitting/mechanical engineering.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using hand and power tools, welding equipment, and potentially heavy machinery. In-depth knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and various mechanical systems is often required.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues efficiently.
