Job Description: A Head of Department (HOD) - Electrical for a coal washery is a senior-level position responsible for leading the electrical department, ensuring 24/7 reliability of all electrical systems, and optimizing power consumption in the coal beneficiation process. This role requires a blend of high-tension (HT) electrical expertise, heavy industrial maintenance experience, and strong leadership to minimize downtime in a high-demand production setting. Key Responsibilities 1. Maintenance & Operational Reliability

- Preventive/Predictive Maintenance: Lead the development and execution of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance schedules for all electrical systems.
- Troubleshooting & Breakdowns: Direct swift troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical faults to minimize downtime.
- Critical Equipment Management: Maintain heavy electrical equipment, including conveyors, crushers, screens, dense medium cyclones, motors, pumps, and separators.
- HT/LT Systems: Oversee HT/LT switchgear, substations, transformers, and power distribution systems.
- PLC/SCADA: Monitor and maintain PLC/SCADA systems to ensure accurate process automation and control.

2. Team Leadership & Personnel Management

- Supervision: Lead, train, and supervise electrical engineers, technicians, and contract operators.
- Safety Training: Ensure all technical staff follow safety protocols, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

3. Safety & Regulatory Compliance

- Safety Protocols:



Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety standards (HT/LT switching, isolation, lockout/tagout).
- Work Permits: Ensure all Permits to Work (PTW) are issued after proper isolation.
- Statutory Requirements: Maintain documentation for regulatory, environmental, and safety inspections.

4. Administration & Cost Control

- Spare Parts Inventory: Manage and optimize the inventory of critical spares to ensure continuous operation.
- Energy Management: Track and optimize power consumption to improve energy efficiency.
- Budgeting: Manage the departmental budget, including costs for maintenance, external services, and spare parts. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 10 to 15+ years of experience in electrical maintenance within a heavy industry, such as coal washeries, power plants, or coal handling plants (CHP).
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, transformers, motors, and automation.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage operations in high-pressure situations.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge
- Experience with Heavy Media Cyclones, Centrifuges, and Magnetic Separators.
- Knowledge of statutory compliance like Factory Licenses and electrical inspection norms.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with mechanical and production departments.
