A Surveyor in financial services (specifically insurance/loss assessment) investigates, quantifies, and validates insurance claims for property or liability losses. They inspect damaged assets, assess coverage liability, and submit detailed reports to insurers, acting as a neutral party to facilitate fair claim settlement. Key Responsibilities

- Loss Investigation: Examine causes, circumstances, and severity of losses (fire, marine, engineering).
- Claim Assessment: Evaluate the extent of damage and calculate the financial value (quantum) of losses.
- Reporting & Documentation: Submit detailed preliminary and final survey reports to insurers.
- Compliance & Warranty Verification: Ensure claims adhere to policy contract terms and warranty conditions.
- Risk Mitigation: Advise insurers and insured parties on loss control and safety measures.




- Valuation: Consider depreciation, salvage value, and ensure correct insurance coverage levels.

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of insurance contracts, general insurance principles, and risk assessment.
- Analytical Ability: Ability to assess damages and verify the validity of complex claims.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for producing reports and communicating with stakeholders.
- Qualifications: Often requires a background in Engineering, Accountancy (CA/ICWA), or specialized insurance surveyor licensing.
