Monitoring the overall manufacturing & packing activities on the shop floor
A dispatcher's job description includes:

- Responding to calls: Answering and responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, and prioritizing them based on urgency
- Communicating: Relaying information between callers, field units, managers, and other personnel
- Coordinating: Developing routes, assigning loads, and scheduling dispatches
- Tracking: Logging calls,
service requests, and other information
- Maintaining systems: Monitoring and maintaining communication systems, and keeping dispatching software up to date
- Providing assistance: Resolving problems and requests for products or services
- Managing schedules: Preparing and updating work schedules, and supervising field units' routes
Dispatchers may also:
- Use mapping software to develop routes
- Calm customers or members of the public during crises
- Organize deployment strategies based on urgency and field personnel
- Utilize computer-aided dispatch systems
