Key Responsibilities
Accessibility Standards Compliance: Implement WCAG, EPUB Accessibility 1.1, and Section 508 guidelines across digital publications.
Content Remediation: Review and edit existing e‑books, PDFs, and online documents to improve accessibility.
Metadata Management: Ensure accessibility metadata is properly embedded in EPUB and other formats.
Assistive Technology Testing: Conduct compatibility checks with screen readers, text‑to‑speech, and other assistive tools.
Collaboration: Work with authors, editors, and designers to embed accessibility at every stage of publishing.
Training and Advocacy: Provide guidance and workshops to internal teams on accessibility best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Solid knowledge of WCAG guidelines and EPUB accessibility techniques.
Experience with EPUB creation tools (InDesign, Sigil, Calibre, etc.).
Familiarity with screen reader testing (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver).
Understanding of accessible design principles including alt text, semantic markup, and navigational structures.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Background
Prior experience in digital publishing or accessibility compliance.
Knowledge of fixed layout accessibility challenges.
Certification in accessibility (e.g., IAAP CPACC, WAS).
