Role & responsibilities
Air filtration: Uses HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) or ULPA (Ultra-Low Penetration Air) filters to remove airborne particles.
Controlled airflow: Maintains laminar or turbulent airflow to prevent contamination.
Temperature and humidity control: Keeps environmental conditions within strict limits.
Positive or negative pressure:
Positive pressure: Prevents contaminants from entering the room (common in pharmaceutical and electronics manufacturing).
Negative pressure: Prevents hazardous materials from escaping (common in laboratories handling infectious materials).
Special construction materials: Smooth, non-shedding walls, ceilings, and flooring that are easy to clean.
Personnel protocols: Workers wear cleanroom garments such as gowns, gloves, masks, hairnets, and shoe covers.

Main components of a cleanroom:
HEPA/ULPA filtration system
HVAC system
Airlocks and gowning rooms
Pass boxes (material transfer)
Cleanroom lighting
Monitoring sensors for particle counts, temperature, humidity, and pressure
Antistatic flooring (where required)
