An Intensivist (Critical Care Consultant) is a specialist doctor responsible for treating critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Their primary role is to stabilise patients, manage life-threatening conditions, and coordinate multidisciplinary care.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in the ICU.
Monitor and treat patients with life-threatening conditions such as sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, and multi-organ failure.
Manage patients on ventilators and provide advanced airway support.
Perform emergency procedures, including intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, and other bedside ICU procedures.
Lead resuscitation efforts and provide Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Develop and review treatment plans in collaboration with specialists, surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and nursing staff.
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.




Ensure adherence to ICU protocols, infection control practices, and patient safety standards.
Maintain accurate medical records and communicate effectively with patients' families regarding treatment and prognosis.
Supervise junior doctors, residents, and ICU staff when required.
