A CNC Operator Cum Programmer is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines:
- Machine setup: Prepare the machine for operation by loading materials, setting up tools, and adjusting machine settings
- Operation: Operate the machine to perform machining tasks like drilling, turning, milling, and grinding
- Troubleshooting: Identify and fix machine issues like programming errors or tool wear
- Quality control: Inspect machined parts to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards
- Documentation: Maintain accurate production records like job orders, inspection reports, and downtime logs
- Maintenance:
Perform minor repairs and maintenance to keep the machine in positive working condition
- Programming: Create CNC programs and enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit machine control media
- Reading blueprints: Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Cleaning: Keep the work area clean and organized
Other responsibilities include:
- Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions on the material
- Selecting, aligning, and securing cutting tools, attachments, and accessories
- Calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors
- Starting and observing machine operation
- Verifying conformance of finished workpiece to specifications
