This role sits at the heart of a major platform modernization initiative, focused on transforming legacy backend systems into scalable, cloud-native services. You will lead the redesign and migration of Erlang-based services into modern Node.js and TypeScript APIs, enabling faster, more reliable, and more maintainable digital experiences. Working in an AWS cloud environment, you will help shape event-driven architectures and robust backend foundations that power frontend applications and downstream services. The role combines deep technical ownership with architectural influence, offering the chance to reduce technical debt at scale. You will collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product teams, and platform specialists in a highly agile and transformation-focused environment. Accountabilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the redesign and migration of legacy backend systems into contemporary cloud-native services.
- Analyze existing Erlang-based services, APIs, and data flows to understand business logic and constraints
- Design and develop scalable backend APIs using Node.js and TypeScript for frontend and system integration needs
- Lead migration of legacy services into maintainable, well-tested microservices architecture
- Redesign data models and migrate data from Riak to AWS databases such as RDS and DocumentDB
- Implement and manage event-driven communication using Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ
- Ensure system performance, scalability, security, and reliability in a cloud-native AWS environment
- Improve observability through logging, monitoring, tracing, and operational readiness practices
- Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, doc
