Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, review medical history, and diagnose common ocular diseases and refractive errors Provide routine eye care such as vision testing and prescribing spectacles or contact lenses Manage outpatient clinics, review follow-up patients, and handle basic ophthalmic emergencies Diagnose and treat conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, infections, uveitis, and ocular surface disorders, referring complex cases when required Perform routine ophthalmic procedures and surgeries as per competency (eg, cataract surgery, pterygium, minor procedures) Prescribe and monitor medical treatment, including topical and systemic medications, and provide pre- and post-operative care Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic nurses, and other specialists to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary patient care Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records, clinical documentation, and reports as per institutional and regulatory requirements Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options,



and preventive eye care, ensuring informed consent and counselling Participate in clinical audits, quality initiatives, and continuing medical education to stay updated with advances in ophthalmology Comply with NABH documentation and departmental coordination to ensure clinical protocols meet national accreditation standards The General Ophthalmologist is responsible for providing comprehensive eye care services,including diagnosis, treatment, and management of common ocular conditions.
