About the Role

PeopleTree Knowledge Services is looking for an experienced Database Administrator (PostgreSQL) to join our team and support critical database upgrade and migration initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and validating PostgreSQL and AWS RDS database upgrades while ensuring high availability, minimal downtime, and data integrity.

You will work closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams to manage database architecture, optimize performance, execute upgrade strategies, and maintain AWS RDS environments throughout the upgrade lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Upgrades

- Lead and execute major PostgreSQL and AWS RDS database version upgrades.
- Develop detailed upgrade plans, rollback procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Perform pre-upgrade and post-upgrade health checks, validation, and performance benchmarking.
- Ensure minimal downtime and seamless database migration during upgrade activities.
- Schedule and execute maintenance activities during approved maintenance windows.

Performance Tuning & Optimization

- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize PostgreSQL database performance.
- Perform query optimization, indexing, VACUUM/ANALYZE tuning, and connection management.
- Identify and resolve database bottlenecks to improve system performance.

AWS RDS Administration

- Manage PostgreSQL databases hosted on AWS RDS.
- Configure and maintain AWS RDS services including RDS Proxy, Parameter Groups, CloudWatch, Snapshots, and Multi-AZ deployments.
- Support backup, recovery, and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR)



operations.
- Ensure database availability, reliability, and disaster recovery readiness.

Collaboration & Documentation

- Collaborate with Application, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams to coordinate upgrade and migration activities.
- Maintain clear documentation of configurations, procedures, operational runbooks, and infrastructure changes.
- Ensure all changes are documented in an auditable and compliant manner.

Automation (Preferred)

- Develop and maintain Bash scripts to automate routine DBA tasks and upgrade activities.
- Manage version-controlled scripts, runbooks, and configurations using GitHub.

Required Skills & Experience

- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator in production environments.
- Strong experience administering PostgreSQL on AWS RDS.
- Proven experience managing PostgreSQL major version upgrades with minimal downtime.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, VACUUM/ANALYZE, and connection management.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
- Strong understanding of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architectures.
- Experience with AWS RDS services including:
- RDS Proxy
- Parameter Groups
- CloudWatch
- Snapshots
- Multi-AZ





- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Solid communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a distributed remote team.

Preferred Skills

- Experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with database monitoring tools such as pgBadger, Datadog, and CloudWatch Insights.
- Knowledge of pglogical, Logical Replication, or Blue-Green deployment strategies.
- Experience with Bash scripting and GitHub.
- AWS Certified Database Specialty or other relevant AWS certifications are an added advantage.
