The Assistant Microbiologist will support routine laboratory operations, research activities, microbial testing and documentation in compliance with ISO and quality standards. The role requires robust technical knowledge of microbiological techniques, environmental monitoring, culture maintenance and data reporting.

Role & responsibilities

1. Laboratory Maintenance & Compliance

- Maintain laboratory environment, cleanliness and controlled working conditions.
- Ensure proper maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment (autoclave, incubator, biosafety cabinets, centrifuge, rotary shaker, laminar air flow, microscope, pH meter, weighing balance etc).
- Follow biosafety and contamination control practices.
- Perform environmental monitoring (air, surface, water and personnel monitoring as applicable).
- Ensure documentation as per ISO standards.

2. Media Preparation & Sterilization

- Prepare culture media as per SOP.
- Perform sterilization of media, glassware and instruments using appropriate sterilization methods and maintain records.

3. Culture isolation, maintenance and Microbial Analysis

- Microbial culture isolation and maintenance of pure cultures and reference strains.
- Carry out microbial enumeration using serial dilution and CFU testing.




- Microscopic enumeration of microbial cell and fungal spores.
- Perform different staining methods.

4. Experimental Work & Research Support

- Assist senior microbiologists in experiment designing and execution.
- Conduct laboratory experiments, compile experimental data and prepare summaries.
- Assist in reporting, presentation preparation and publication drafting where required.

5. Reporting & Documentation

- Record and compile test results systematically.
- Prepare test reports and data sheets.
- Maintain laboratory registers, SOPs, logbooks, and calibration records.
- Ensure compliance with ISO documentation requirements.

Required Skills:

- Strong understanding of microbiological techniques, microscopy and aseptic practices.
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring and sterility testing.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Basic statistical understanding for data compilation.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
